1080P Nexus Kernel for SDK2 Strauzo ROM

OK by request I patched the Nexus kernel from Strauzo's SDK 2 Minix X7 ROM. No other changes other than patching for 1080P.

If you do not know what this is or how to use it, well maybe it's not for you.


Download this and unzip it to kernel.img
Flash ONLY kernel.img using the flash tool in Strauzo's ROM.

just tried it, does increase the resolution but it makes everything long and thin looking

The nexus 720 kernel also has this aspect ratio as well! It just looks more pronounced at 1080. The proportions are in fact the same!

Remove the top and bottom status bars!
Those are what is causing the draw able screen area look squished!
But removing them causes other issues.
I could also change the resolution to something wierd like 1920x1120 or something like that but then some TVs may not sync.

However, I will see what I can do in the rom itself later when I have the time.

Hi, I'm a bit of a noob specially with struazo's roms
2 questions:

If I havn't flashed struazo's rom should I flash just the kernel or both? (if so how do I flash both at the same time)

I have never flashed a struazo rom. And I have never used the RK android tool.
How do I flash this rom in the first place?

changing the ro.sf.lcd_density in build.prop can adjust the aspect ratio. Some tablet rom with higher resolution, have the ro.sf.lcd_density values higher. if I remember correctly

It won't change the aspect ratio e.g X by Y. It will simple change density value. If you want the icons, text, etc larger change density value to 240 this will make it look like 720 sized icons. Again though the aspect ratio remains the same as still will looked squished!

Try it yourself by editing build.prop.

1920/1080=1.777778 ratio
1280/720=1.777778 ratio

LCD density does not change the ratio

Again the reason it looks squished is the 2 status bars leaving the usable area at some like 1920x1020 or something close to that. Antutu benchmark info will tell you that.

The only advantage of Nexos rom for me is hardware keyboard support(called holtek wireless 2,4 ghz). It supports international layouts-for me german. On finless rom (Minix original) i have qwertz issue for hardware keyboard. @ finless: this would be great to have full hardware keyboard support. Playing full hd content from my Qnap NAS is much smoother on finless rom than on Nexus rom for me. So i went back to finless 1.5a.

Overclock 1080p Kernel

Hi Bob

Would you be kind enough to make available overclocked versions of this kernel. Maybe just overclocking gpu and ram to 600mhz and 720mhz would be enough. The thing is that 1080p tends to slow down the nexus rom. Antutu benchmark goes all the way down to 14049 and it losses it's snappines.

We don't have kernel sources yet to do this. I just patched the binary kernel to 1080.
However I do happen to know phjanderson may have found a way to patch binary kernels to overclock. We will have to wait and see if he has success or not.

Does the phjanderson kernel you flashed support 24hz HDMI output and does the Ethernet port work? If so, would you post a link to the kernel. Previous versions of phjanderson kernerl did not support 24hz HDMI output (this is needed so there is no stuttering in HD moveis) and the Ethernet port did not work.

I don't think it does. Its 1080/60hz
