    Pipo M8 Pro RileyROM 2.0

UPDATE: This is now v2.0a. I complete started over with an expanded system.img file and some different parameter file sizes. Now with your choice of 2, 4, 8 and 12gb user app space. I only have the 16gb version tablet, so I couldn't test any larger parameters. This update also disables the Pipo OTA update feature, which has caused problems on the other Pipo tablets. I included an updated tun.ko, cifs.ko and md4.ko for VPN support.

This ROM is based on the official Pipo firmware release dated 9/19/2013.

This firmware makes plenty of improvements over the previous releases in performance...and stability. I'm not much for benchmarks, but I got 17148 on the last ROM, this time it is up to 19565...a significant improvement, I would say.

Since this RileyROM v2.0, I decided to put a little more work into it than I've done with previous releases. I've tested the wifi version thoroughly and I haven't found any glitches yet.

    v2.0a Features:

    Full Root with SuperSU
    Debloat
Reduced System.img file size with ext4 file system
The usual 2, 4, 6 or 8gb user app space parameter files
Your choice of stock recovery or CWM
Multi-user support (I finally got this to work correctly) You will see a new option called Users in settings.
Some Internet/Wifi tweaks to improve speed and streaming
    Some video performance adjustments
    A few general performance enhancements
    The Petrus Reboot app
    Disabled OTA updates
Brand new boot animation from Tattman65
    tun.ko, cifs.ko and m4.ko installed

      Installing Wifi version.

Flashed it and it didn't do it like it was supposed to. The part below didn't happen.

      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just let it run until you see the RileyROM badge screen.

Once you flash the ROM it will immediately boot into CWM Recovery by Fun. You get error messages at the bottom saying Invalid Command Arguement...etc...so just ignore that.

By swipeing the screen up and down, move through the CWM menu and select "wipe cache partition" and press the power button. Swipe down to confirm "Yes - Wipe Cache" and press the power button.

The main screen shows up again. Just press the power button and boot the system.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

when the flashtool finished it automaticly rebooted thetablet and I've got the Pipo bootscreen, then a part :flashing memory. Then the green android guy and a reboot.

After the reboot the welcome screen appears and Now I will see what happens next. So far it seems to be working normal.

Yes...the default is stock recovery this time. Sorry.

If you want CWM recovery, you can flash it instead. Just select CWMrecovery.img instead of recovery.img on the flash tool and uncheck everything except recovery. Don't erase IDB.
(That's only if you have already flashed the whole ROM)

RR1.9 has been working so well, but this one makes for some excellent reasons to upgrade.

Thanks, RR. After this one is loaded ...look for a donation. Your work is appreciated.

Nah, no problem. It works fine. I was just expecting the handeling as discribed in the txt file. So it felt a little creepy when it didn't show up.

Please help me understand fully b4 I try this and mess up something.

              I want CWM, so do I ...
              > 1st flash the new rom
              >Once I flash the rom it will boot to ...what? Would that be the finished option with the 'stock recovery'?
              >Should I then come back to the ROM Flash Tool and uncheck all but the recovery option, choosing the CWM image file ...then which option next in the flash tool window?
              1. Reboot or 2. Flash ROM ??
(must be reboot; nothing else would seem to fit)

              Thanks.

If you want CWM, BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING:

Extract the zip file somewhere on your PC. (I usually put it on my desktop)

Browse with Windows Explorer to the RileyROM folder off of the root of the ROM kit.

Highlight Recovery.img and rename it to StockRecovery.img
Highlight cwmrecovery.img and rename it to recovery.img

Now you can start the flashtool and flash and get CWM Recovery the first time around.

Remember, you will need to manually format the internal SD as stated in the First Time User's Guide.

That makes it much easier for someone like me ...having to have specific instructions.

Maybe one day I will understand the whole concept better.

                  Edit ...to add.

                  Done.
                  Worked like a charm.

Now to get it set up like I had it before with my Apex and apps.

                  Thanks

Just finished flashing this rom. So far, the 2 issues I have with v1.9 are now resolved in this release. These are: 1. Cannot connect to some wireless routers. 2. Cannot switch to different apps in recent apps window.

                    Will do further testing.

                    Thank you Randy.

Found a typo. On the pull down menu for quick settings, service is mispelled as "servece".

After alot of problems with windows 8 and drivers, did not manage to flash it last night. I am just wondering why these ROMS are not distrubuted as a flashable ZIP?
Flashing ROMS in my phone is so easy, just reboot to recovery and flash the ZIP.

Thanks alot for your ROMS, will donate when I got some money :-)

Hi, I will gladly test this multi user rom : do you know if volume control button continue to be displayed in navigation bar (because they always disappeared when applying multi user on all other roms I tried) ?

btw, just a tip about this line in the Unbrick procedure in the readme :
Keep holding the power button with your thumb (if you let go, it will go out of loader mode and you will have to start over). ==> THIS IS NOT NEEDED IF YOU PLUG THE POWER CORD IN THE TABLET !!

                          Thanks

Makes me glad I still have 7. Installed without a hitch.

                            I wish you well.
