    1. I previously created a 2nd partition to use the unallocated space and labeled it P:. Despite having performed a full reformat, in Windows Explorer P: is still showing although unavailable if I try to view its contents. I opened diskmgmt and P: is nowhere to be found. I refreshed the tree in Explorer but P: is still there.

    2. Wanting to eject the card, I opened my USB disk ejector but the card is not displayed so I then tried in Windows 'Safely Remove Hardware' and it isn't shown there either. Can I just pull it from the card reader without causing any damage?

    Edit:
I checked diskmgmt again and found P:. It has been formatted and is unavailable. In H: it is shown as unallocated space. I fear this partition was the reason I couldn't get CoreElec to run and I'm worried that even though it is unallocated space, the fact that it still shows up as a partition may wreck the CoreElec booting procedure. If that is the case, I guess I will have to order a new SD card as I can't seem to get rid of this partition.

And you still didn't follow my instructions otherwise you wouldn't have had this problem in the first place.

Why not install Kodi on your Windows PC and check if you can restore your backup successfully there?
If it works there, it will also work in CoreELEC and then you can just install the dual-boot CoreELEC to your device once and be done with it or still try to get the mico-sd card CoreELEC booting after following the instructions.

Respectfully, that is just adding further complication and is completely unnecessary - the backup WILL transfer from the Android Kodi to the CE

      Reformat the card using diskpart
      https://www.diskpart.com/diskpart/fo...part-0310.html

Be sure to follow the instructions carefully - especially in selecting the correct disk # from that displayed by 'list'
Then the 'clean' command will remove the partitions
And proceed to create a new primary partition and format as per the instructions
Use FAT32 for the format type - i.e. format fs=fat32 quick

Then re-flash your card - and there is nothing wrong with using Rufus - indeed that is the recommended application by CoreELEC - however you have at least managed to install the image with Balena and its interface is easier to use, so suggest you continue with that

I also suggested earlier, you could also 'practice' with a USB stick, prepared similarly - it will at least confirm the process outwith your possibly corrupted SD card. And you can also use it to familiarize yourself with the CE program. a 4GB or even 2GB will be plenty to be going on with (I prepped a 2GB USB using that same device tree - i.e NOT the reva one - just to prove the process over again) - and that same stick has been over-written and re-formatted multiple times.

When ready to replace that USB with an SD Card, you simply unplug the stick and repeat the process for the SD Card as if the USB stick 'never happened'

Indeed I think you got into this mess when you got creative and tried formatting that partition.

Bloody nightmare! Aomei Disk Partition gave instructions that were impossible to follow because the options it said to use are not there. As I know the problem is the 2nd partition, I chose the only one that remotely seemed relevant, Delete All Partitions. Afterwards, it displayed the SD card as a single unallocated partition and I thought "Great! We're getting somewhere." I then used balenaEtcher to recreate the CoreElec image. It did that successfully but couldn't be seen by Windows so I used diskmgmt to give the card a label. Now it was visible and I copied over the correct dtb file as before. All sounds good so far except that when I go to eject the card, this is what I see:

Should I try it on the AM6 anyway?

The problem isn't restoring my Kodi backup, it's getting CoreElec to run on my AM6.

Please use diskpart as I suggested
Honestly, it's frustrating to be continually trying to help and you just go your own way and do something different

I went to the page you provided the link to and the download link was for Aomei Disk Partition Assistant so I installed that and attempted to follow the instructions on that page.

Ok, I can see what's happened. I feel for the trap of download links for an application.

If this is accurate step by step account, it appears you failed to create and FORMAT the drive before you proceeded to Etch it

Just completed the operation using diskpart to include reflashing the CoreElec image with balenaEtcher. The result is exactly the same.

No, I did format the drive first. I just did the same using diskpart.

Edit: you're correct. I didn't format the drive before etching but I did the 2nd time around using diskpart and the final result is identical. Mind you, that 2nd partition only appears in USB Disk Ejector. If I try ejecting it with Windows Safely Remove Hardware, I only see the H: partition however, I'm sure that's because the 0 partition isn't allocated.

So have you now assigned the dtb.img to the root?
If so, go ahead and try it

                          That is expected
Look again at my previous pics in Explorer - all you see is the 512MB formatted space

I'll give it a try then.

Sorry, it didn't work. Exactly the same thing happened as before.
I think it's time to give up with this one. I will buy another card and try again. At least next time around I won't make the mistake of partitioning the card.

Thanks for all your help guys. I'll get back to you as soon as the new card arrives.

Also - you ARE using the 'recovery' button, right? (NOT the Maskrom button)
