these are more if someone wants them now

at one point these were the only option if the rom became inoperable for one reason or another. now they are an option, but since shawn has stock roms available they are more in case someone wants to try something different.

I'm waiting to go back to stock, but the current stock701i ROM has inverted gsensor on my device... Until that is fixed, I'm stuck with the Onda firmware....

Thanks for the input! I'll just pull the english file off of another ICS device I have...

Anyone know where the dictionary is stored and what it's named??

        Hello!

You aren't if the store you bought it from has one to replace it with. Remember - no available firmware + manufacturer run-around = justification to return to store for refund/exchange for ANY reason.

If your store is sold out, I have a 701i (with the TV Out jack) that still has a factory-installed ROM that I was going to return, but if you need one, and can't find one, I'll hold off on returning it. Even better, I have another one that is still in the box unopened, so I don't know whether or not it has a TV out jack on it or not.

If you (or anyone else) would like one desparately enough, PM me, and I'll send it out COD if someone can't wait for their store to get more.

It looks like we'll have to ultimately have to create three stock ROMs: 701c, 701i with TV out jack (which probably could be used to upgrade a 701c to a 701i), and a stock ROM for the 701i without the TV out jack. ST will ALSO have to do all this, PLUS either license or write a utility to install those images.

Don't expect all this out of ST anytime soon, especially given their past performance record. I have worked quite a bit as a manufacturing tech myself, so I know the drill.

In any case, let me know what you decide to do about this.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm just going to wait it out - I'm sure the stock firmware will be released eventually - until then, I'm fine with the Onda firmware...

          Thanks again.

He uploaded a new one last night

He consolodated all the ROM's into one thread and uploaded it last night. I have tried it out. It is the 701C android 4.0 ROM. Works great on my test unit so far and the screen rotates the correct way. Only thing is it still had issues with Netflix locking up on the current version, but since every time it did it happened at the same place, even if I backed it up a couple minutes, boom lockup at same place. So I think it is more a Netflix issue, possibly just having a codec problem. Since I see posts about it all over on multiple platforms I would think it is more them. Unfortunately it will probably be up to us to fix.

Thanks man! I didn't even notice the 701c ICS firmware he put there! Downloading that now.

Thanks again - I'll report my results ASAP (the image download takes about an hour via uploading.com free)...

Is the kernel version the same as the stock FW in the Onda FW? If so, it should be possible to extract the kernel modules from it, and use them with our stock 701i ROM. Does it have bluetooth and or 3G modules?

Well, I answered my own question. I installed it, and it is Gingerbread. DOH! I never could find a way to change the language to English however. Oh well, I didn't want Gingerbread anyway.

I am presently downloading the onda 4.0.3.1-1 to give it a try. I think I can navigate to change the language on that one. lol

I am hoping for bluetooth drivers. Probably a pipe dream. Oh well. I will let you all know if there is anything great here, but I am not holding my breath.

I do show changing the language to english in the video, though even though the majority of it changes to English, there was always places where the Chinese would creep in.
Basically when you open up settings you scroll down till you see a setting with an A in a box. hit that. Select the top menu selection and then scroll down for English (USA) or whichever one you want.

opps, I didnt watch the video. I am one of those people that never read the instructions. I just dive right in.

I managed to get the Onda ICS firmware installed, and in English. After a while of removing things, the only thing that I saw showing up in chinese, was the keyboard choices, until I got that set correctly. Then it was pretty much smooth sailing. I dd'ed the system, data and cache partitions, so I could look more closely at them later. Then I proceeded to reflash the ST stock firmware in the end.

I was happy to see that Market/Play and Gmail were both included in that Onda ROM. However, still no Bluetooth drivers. I want to learn how to build my own kernel/rom for this unit. I have been doing it in Fedora for years, the kernel way, not the fedora way.
