OTT M8S advice for non working unit

Very new to all of this!
    TV boxes, etc.
Could not find a forum for OTT boxes.
Please direct me to it, if it exists.
I was given an M8S OTT box and am trying to get it to work.
I have plugged it in to my TV [HDMI cable].
I have connected it to the internet via cat cable.
When I turn my TV on all I get is a M8S logo that states mlogic, H.265, 8 core, Mali 450 and Quad Core A9.
I have downloded the users guide but it is not a lot of help in the info department.
There is a USB dongle in a USB slot at the back for a bluetooth keyboard, the keyboard lights up, but again no reaction from OTT box.
The box that the keyboard came in says it is for an Android TV Box.
There is also a remote for the TV box.
The remote flashes red when I hit buttons but does not seem to react.
The remote does not seem to turn machine on/off.
I have found a site that shows how to reset to factory defaults.
I have read about getting into recovery mode using a USB keyboard.
    I have not done either.
Can anyone suggests what my next moves should be?
    Thanks

      Hi ,

think it is in Bootloop , you must flash new , you must know what CPU is used , Amlogic / Rockchip or others ,

and what Wifichip is used , then you can search for the right Firmware , think you must open up , to see what

is going on inside your Box , if all is checked you can download FW and flash with the specific Tool ,

i think it is S812 Amlogic , very old , better if possible you buy a new one with higher Android Version ,

you can get good S905x4 Boxes for about 50-60 Bucks , example Tanix X4 / or F95X , remember there are

small Limitation in use , no DRM L1 for HD Netflix and others , Link for your Box :

Well, I have a TV box marked OTT Model M8S, I put an incorrect ROM, and it was dead, but I found a firmware, this: cyx_m8s_v8.6_ap6330_8g2g_kodi_addons_ota_150908_USB that with the fire engine, at least The blue light worked, but when turn on, keep the image of amlogic s812 on the TV and do not move on, a firmware for my chip

      https://drive.google.com/drive/mobil...usp=drive_open

Superceleron made a Customrom for the Tanix X4 look here :

      further good luck

mmAtvXk device would not boot into recovery mode. Is there another way.

@getfattern -I have opened device and looked in side -boards look OK.
The splash screen says Amlogic. How do I find out what the wifi chip is?

Now you are entering into the Testing Zone !!!

              There are other ways...
Toothpick method is not always works first time.

              Remove usb dongle for keyboard
              And any other external.

              Need more info.
Any markings on back of box
              Ram
              Rom

              The point is
              Probably as posted s812

Maybe could be used for emulator
              Older
              LibreELEC
              EmuELEC
              AlexELEC...

              otherwise useless

              Waste of time

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who has helped in this matter. I do understand that this is an older piece of equipment and my knowledge of it is on the low end. I was hoping that being a Linux derivative there was some hope for it, as I don't like waste. There are few markings on it, which doesn't help. As well as my inexpertise about these devices.

So, now, I am looking for a "brand" name tv box (other than chromecast, roku, fire, etc.) that I can look into. Not really interested in used. Android(configurable) preferred. I live in CANADA if that makes a difference. My use for the tv box is mostly news and documentary with a little entertainment thrown in. Netflix, et all, I am not interested in, although I like movies. I have cut the wire so to speak and do not subscribe to any of the big TV/Internet providers.

I do not recognize any names of the Android TV boxes I have seen in any internet searching, so, if someone could provide some names that are good equipment in this line, I could check them out and get on with this.

              Thanks.

gefattern Is the Ugoos you suggested a "fully loaded" box? If not where would I get the additional software? Ugoos is not available in CANADA, but I can get it from the USA or China.

You are required to do your own research/reading. .

                    When choosing a Device

                    Use big G
                    Search
                    There is Ugoos Store
                    And other links...

                    Maybe if you have Amazon
                    Change country
                    And search
                    Amazon. Eu
                    American also ships to Canada
                    Also direct from China
                    Aliexpress

                    I forgot
Watch the u tube video review s
                    Great info there on Specs

The Advice i give if you want to stream the Big Boys properly, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc, go for a certified box that can work in your area
A simple Fire stick can do just about most to watch Paid services, if that is what you seek.

Now to fiddle and muck around with you need something else, Ugoos as mentioned or many more that can be found
As mentioed above Google is friend, as is YouTube.
It Just depends what ya wanna do with it.

Also look at resent post on Freaktab to see what being worked on last month or so.with updates and mods

                        Hi ,

if you mean a installed Firmware , yes , but remember what Trebor wrote , what are your needs ??? ,

for Streaming a Fire Stick or similar is good enough , no need to pay more Money as needed , but

that is your choice , if you decided let us know ,

                        further good luck / gefattern

                          How's the decision making going?

If you decide to go with a tester

Here is list of 5 I have
All working with different chipsets/CPU /Android versions

Scishion V88 RockChip with Android 7.1.2

WeChip V10 Allwinner/custom rom from XDA Forum
                          Android 10

Tanix Tx5 Plus Deluxe Amlogic S905X3
                          Custom Rom Android 9
                          With CoreELEC on external

                          A95XF4 Amlogic S905X4
Custom Rom Android 11(Superceleron version 6)
                          With CoreELEC on external

                          Hk1 RBox X4 Amlogic S905X4
                          Custom Rom Android 11
                          With CoreELEC on external

Also Tanix X4 box is the one that Superceleron has
                          So allready is Custom Rom

                          All work with varying results/glitch
                          Nothing is perfect...

                          Personal I would avoid Rockchip/Allwinner
                          Stick with Amlogic

Tanix Deluxe performs as well as S905X4 boxes..

                          Happy Testing

why shall he avoid it , the Problems are the Firmware , if he buys a supported Box , no Problem ,

or Ugoos , they have good Firmware , you self are using Amlogic & Rockchip Boxes , his needs

are important for his choise ,
