BETA testers for ROM for 1.5 Nextbook #1011

working and not working....

I posted that my YF1211 would not work with the 1.5b rom for #1211.

so, I have tried this 1.5c for #1011.

I now have sound !!
I have wifi.
All of the google apps injected ok.
I have google play and it is auto-updating the google apps ok.
Angry Birds plays with sound.

BUT...

The injector will not install any of the 'STOCK APPS' or 'Additional Nextbook Applications'.

If I only select Calculator, I see it trying but the popup screen goes away really fast. Calc not installed.

Do you need me to debug anything for you? (I am a Linux SysAdmin, very handy at the shell prompt)

more information about APP INJECTOR failure...

I cracked open the ZIP file and copied the contents to my SDCARD.

Using Explorer, any app that is a single file installs ok.
Examples: youtube, flash player, astro, auto time, slideme

Any app that has the 2nd file ending with ODEX fails to install.
If I erase the .ODEX file, the apk still fails to install.
Examples: browser, calculator and many more

I hope that gives some hints!


PS: Just to be sure you understand, the youtube.apk embedded inside the ZIP installs ok if I extract it out of the ZIP file and manually install it via Explorer. Youtube will not install via the Injector app.

BETA 1011 1.5c looking very good

Ok I just finished flashing BETA 1011 1.5c (on my YF121134 NB7) and everything is looking very good. I have sound, boot-up is fast, and the App Injector is almost perfect.

Here's what I chose to inject with the App Injector:

Google Play V3.5.15 - Works perfectly
Google Calendar - Works perfectly
Google Maps - Works perfectly
Google Streets - Works perfectly
Youtube - Works perfectly
Default Browser - Works perfectly
Calculator - Works perfectly
Desk Clock - Works perfectly
Picture Gallery3D - Works I think. No pictures in the Gallery
Live Wallpapers - Works perfectly. My Spinning Galaxy option is there
Adobe Flash Player 10.3 (Injected as User App) - Installed
Ebook View - Works perfectly. Works when you click the Ebook launcher button on the home screen
Task Killer - IS NOT INSTALLED!

I do not see Task Killer in the apps drawer. Also I noticed that Talk has installed, even though I did not choose to install Google Talk. There are also three apps in the app drawer called Latitude, Navigation, and Places, but I believe that these three may be part of Google Maps.

I've also discovered that the Date/Time with weather is no longer on the main desktop. That was there on the 1.4 ROM. I liked that little applet, is there a way to bring it back?

Wait a minute! My SD card keeps un-mounting itself. It never did this before? I've re-booted a few times now.

So for the time being I have two problems. Task Killer has not installed, and my SD card keeps un-mounting. I'll play with it some more when I get home, but besides these two issues, this build is looking very good!

hey finless flashed your rom everything works perfect

the only thhing i can think of for you to add in your next release is a fully deodexed rom

OK I will look at task killer and see what happened. Maybe that was NOT in the original ROM but in the 1211 ROM and I forgot to edit the APPInjector. That will be simple in the end.

Talk gets installed as part of Google Play. IT MUST BE THERE for Google Play to work properly!

As for SD card unmounting, no way has that got anything to do with my ROM. Rooting doesnt do that kind of thing.

But have a look at this post I made about whe people seeing SDcard issues and thinking it is a ROM problem. My bet is you corrupted it somewhere along the line.

Did you read the above? The original beta download had a problem with the apps not installing. You need to download the new beta rev c that I posted just yesterday. As you can see by nemlack's post above yours, it now works.

The fixed injector.apk and package.zip are found in the BETA TEST 1.5 for 1011 Rev c download, but don't forget that in addition to re-flashing with the rev C ROM, you have to re-copy the fixed injector.apk and package.zip to your SD card. Could it be that you are still using the injector.apk and package.zip from the Rev b beta?

Here is the taskkill apk and odex file from the 1011 ROM. Unzip these 2 files and replace the files in the packag.zip. Then see if app injector works with it and it shows up.

FYI I do not know if this even is suppose to show up as an app in the app drawer???? It maybe just a widget you put on your desktop??? So please look in the widget list.

I made sure I copied them over. I'll do some more playing on the weekend. The 'ROM' works, it is just the apps that are having difficulties installing.

all 3rd party apps that I have tried install ok.

Ok, just finished doing this, but no change. Made sure to reboot after injecting, but I still can't find Task Killer anywhere. Task Killer is an app in the stock rom. It is found in the Apps drawer, and I usually copy it to the desktop. Anyone who has your 1.4 ROM should have Task Killer.

By the way the Taskill.apk and Taskill.odex that you included in the download were the exact same size as the ones in the Package.zip so it doesn't look like they were any different (There's no mod date of the files, so can't compare them that way.)

Ok I installed Root Explorer and discovered that only TaskKill.odex exists in /system/app. No sign of TaskKill.apk, so I extracted Taskkill.apk from your download and copied it into /system/app as instructed. Did a reboot, but still could not find Advanced Task Killer in the Apps drawer. I went back in and confirmed that both Taskkill.apk and Taskkill.odex are both in the /system/app folder. Then I decided to try copying the Taskkill.odex from your download into /system/app and overwrite the Taskkill.odex that was already there. Rebooted, and presto, I know have my Advanced Task Killer! It was in the App Drawer. I added it to my desktop and it seems to work fine.

So it looks like you should replace the current Taskkill.apk and Taskkill.odex files in Package.zip with the ones that you included in your download, and then figure out why Taskkill.apk did not install.

But now that I have my Advanced Task Killer I'd say that my Tablet is 100%. My SD card has not unmounted since the first flashing, so I'm not going to worry about that.

I found the problem. If you open the package.zip and then open the apps.csv file you will see I made a TYPO in that for the taskkill.apk file name. It has a A in front of the name. Thats why it did not work.

I will fix the ROM download and file name will be Rev d.

OK file updated to rev d which has the fix for taskkiller in the app injector package. This is not a new ROM so you do not need to reflash.
