Not to spoil the Party, but I hope that you get some decent speed out of it you 9G2 guys with only having 512gb. as Bob knows I have a 1gb of ram cube tablet that comes with Ics and it is not the fastest, gingerbread is much faster.

But it would be great to see it

But the easy way is to get the original firmware from arnova if they provide it for your tab.
But if you can get both the original firmware and a dump from your tab, that would be the more safe, of course
      @petrus

Thanks for the info. I'm running Bob's 1.5 ROM on my 9 G2 so not bothered with the original Arnova ROM - I have the stock ROM as well but it's bloody awful compared to Bob's handywork. I just want to be able to get back to where I am now should the ICS ROM turn out to be a bit of a let down (fingers crossed it's not)

Now I think Petrus he is asking about backing up all his apps and data so he can restore easily once he flashed to ICS. The answer is NO.... Even Titanium backup says a backup of your stuff when you upgrade to a different rom version is a no go. So you will be starting from scratch.

Since you have a 9G2 I assume, I have the stock Arnova GingerBread ROM for you if you need it.

Bob, not too worried to be honest. I just wondered if you could take a "snapshot" of the whole tablet before re-flashing (i.e. back my tablet as is to a ROM image and flash it back). If it's a pain to retain all of the apps and data then I'm not bothered - just takes a few hours to install and get everything back to normal. God .. how OCD am I??

No you cant really make a snapshot. However download the free TItanium backup version and backup everything! >batch>backup all apps and system data.
This way if you flash back to my 1.5 ROM you can restore all your stuff.

Titanium backup is not that bad about backing up and restoring apps. It has some quirks, though, and some apps are not well restored but it is good on the whole process.

Maybe, my AppInjector app will be able to make a snapshot someday, but unlike Titanium, I won't mess with app data. So maybe when my app is good enough you will be able to backup apps, but without any apps data.

I'm working on it, but don't expect getting anything but raw app install. And it isn(t yet implemented Let me know if I should

Thanks for the valuable feedback guys - I'll not waste time with trying to create a dump image. Just about to install titanium backup and back up everything in preparation for the ICS ROM.

If you have enough time to play with it, just do what I do, and make a package.zip with the apps you really need like titanium backup and es file manager. Then you can go and restore other apps later...

OK guys I cant keep up... please for the 9G2 users go to my ROM forum and use the thread I created there for the 9G2.

This thread will remain for porting to other Arnovas.

                  Thanks,
                  Bob

Porting ICS to others... NOT going to happen

OK now that I have the 9G2 ICS ROM and I know it works and is ICS, I just spent the last 5 hours trying to port it to the 10 G2.

                    It's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

The kernel we have from Arnova for the 10G2 just will not supoprt it. I tired everything I know to get the LIB files and everything ported. NO GO

Realize that ICS is a different kernel against a totally different Android SDK. Without kernel sources it's just not going to happen

Sorry guys I tried my best with what we have.

I will say this and it kind of pisses me off. The 10G2 has the largest user base of all the Arnova Tablets. AND what does Arnova do? They do an ICS release for one of the SMALLEST user bases for their tablets! WTF!

You know I am not sure who is driving this company but if you really want to piss off users do the following
                    1) Release a new ROM for a tablet that FEW have. It's CLEAR this is only for NEW sales of product. YEA... SCREW your existing customers that like your product.
                    2) Don't communicate to all your distributers/resellers that the ROM is out so they SWEAR TO CUSTOMERS it does not exist. Well of course NO ONE would buy existing stock of the 9G2 because of this. BUT you could offer a free upgrade and sell existing stock. BUT NO... SCREW your resellers and distributors by NOT telling them. Nice
                    3) Don't tell your "Customer Support" community world wide that it exists so they wind up looking like FOOLS when users contact them and ask. I have to say what will the Customer Support say when someone calls them about HAVING THIS TABLET with this ROM? Will they refuse support?
Be careful when you return it if it fails! You might just get a replacement with a GingerBread ROM on it! Because they have no CLUE this exists.

Well to be honest, I am not suprised at these tactics by a China company. In my other hobby I see this kind of crap all the time. So I am not that dissapointed knowing what I know. HELL I am suprised they even spent the time doing a ICS ROM for the 9G2 with the fact that they are now rolling out the G3 line! So I never expected it anyway.

The problem I see is, if Arnova would just do the SIMPLEST OF THINGS which would not cost them anything to do, they could be much better. HELL if they contacted me I would HELP THEM FOR FREE with advise and support! Seriously I am not kidding here! I would do it for free as I think these cheap tablets can be a BOON for users when done right. All they have to do is ask and they have it. Oh and I have emailed them and offered it too, but as usual no response....

Android Tablets are going to grow so much this year and next. The peoiple that play right will get the market share! Trust me on this. Tablets other than the iPad are going to be the biggest "thing" this year. If Archos/Arnova wants a piece of this growing pie, they better start listening!

                    OK off my soap box....

                      Hi All,
Does anyone still have the stock Arnova GingerBread ROM?
It would be great to get it from one of you.

I really want to update to ICS but this is a brand new tablet and I am nervous about breaking it if I don't have a backup rom to fix any problems.

Hope someone can help me out.
                      Cheers,
