Firmware is not the problem, but to get 1080p kernel for this, like lewy20041 done for t-r42.

Well, hopefully he will help me, otherwise this thing is quite useless without 1080p kernel

If you are planning on using 1080p true kernel, I suggest start cutting the top cover in the box for a better heatsink/cooler. Also xbmc still wont play smooth 1080p. Try SPMC ouya build. Works quite well with stock 720p kernel. One last thing, 1080p res on a tv, you wont be able to read anything unless you change a dpi from 160 to 240, but than most goole play apps wont work

That never minds me, because I wanted this thing primary for XBMC movie/music/photos playback.
So the kernel cares of all the drivers for the components on the PCB?

Yes the kernel is responsible for the hardware drivers, lan, wifi, etc.. If you want it just for XBMC, with 1080p kernel , films will still not play smooth in 1080p mode, unless you use external player for xbmc like MX player with hardware acceleration. But like I said the 1080p kernel will make the box HOT! so you do need a bigger heatsink/cooler/fan.

Try this XBMC ouya version for android. It sideloads so you wont loose you normal xbmc setting.

1080p play smooth. AC3 passthrough etc..

Well the MX Player doesn´t change refreshrate on playback, so there are still some small stutterings like playing 23,976fps movie on a 60Hz screen. Thanks for the information about the heatsink, I will monitor the temps when some kernel will be (hopefully) released.

Ok thanks, I will give a try, but isn´t OUYA Tegra based? Is there a DTS passthrough also?

Its a custom version, works fine on rk devices. And yes its patched for DTS passthrough.

Even worse than with the latest stock nightly XBMC. It lags like hell.
I think it is due to the GPU which must downscale the 1080p video to 720p and then upscale it to 1080p - what is the point of doing it???
                    I need 1080p kernel

It is true, it does downscale and than upscale. There is no point, you are right. What firmware you are running 11-16-2013 ??

1080p kernel wont make any difference to XBMC playback.

I know it might sound silly, but are you sure your hdmi cable is ok? I had this before that the cable was cheap and anything above 720p would judder!! Unwatchable!

Sorry, but pointless question - UI is smooth, video playback is smooth like playing video on 60Hz monitor... I need to run XBMC smooth so it played in the doubled refreshrate of the movie framerates.

There must be, as mine is dated 16-11-2013, that is the rom I got with the box. I will ask a seller in China to send me the link to that firmware.
