Everyone uses their device different though, I could rip holes in either Finless or the Minix firmwares as neither are particually better than the other.
I am not 100% sure it is built in, but getting the advancedsettings.xml and placing it in your XBMC data folder is absolute necessary to get a solid FPS for HD playback, it seems to have it's fair share of problems currently so have not tested if it is still needed. If you are having problems though I'd actually check to see if the video is actually being GPU decoded.
This has been discussed many times though in this forum, will be much easier when XBMC 13 becomes stable and we can just go official as libstagefright was added a few months back.Currently Using:
2 x Nvidia Shield TV | MiniMX III
Retired Devices:
MiniMX III-II | Mk808b Pro | Mk808b Plus | Raspberry Pi 1 + 2 | UBOX R89 | MK808 | MK808b | CS008 | X1 4K (rk3288_809) | CYX_809III | Ouya | CX-919 | S82 Plus | Tronstmart R68

HI Mo,
I currently have Finless 1.7 and justXBMC v2 on my mk808b original. I mostly use the mk808b for streaming live TV channels via XBMC, but get an external player active for some streams or some streams wont open via MX player.
My questions are -
1) If I try this Dec 24 rom, do I have to uninstall Finless 1.7 and XBMC?
2) Are the installation directions same as in the other digitop thread?
3) 720p is fine for me, do not need the 1080p. Therefore, do I need to replace any kernels or the file that you posted is enough?

It will erase everything on your device.
2. Yes. follow the instructions in the OP, very easy.
3. The kernel included is 720p & 1.4 Ghz and works fine.

mo123,
I;ve been watching your threads ( you're the man! ) ... interested in this ROM. I have the plain MK808.
2 questions:
1) The passthrough you speak of - that allows for HDMI passthrough - ie: DTS encoding during playback?
2) for the MK808, can you point me to the right kernels - I'm nervous about overclocking, unless its absolutely needed for the XBMC performance and works w/out extra heat sinking. ( I wasn't clear if it needed an OC'd kernel or that was just a bonus )
I have to say I'm fairly happy with the Feb 19th build of XBMC and 720p playback ... but I would like the HDMI out for surround sound...
thanks in advance

You can use stock kernel and use NofrillsCPU to overclock to 1.4 Ghz if needed for above rom or use a 1-1.4 Ghz MK808 kernel with no other o/c for this rom, link included in OP.

Can I just install the minix XBMC referenced in this ROM, on my Finless 1.7? If yes, any direct links to the minix XBMC apk?
Then follow instructions in post 7

I could play a full 1080p movie, the best so far. This is the same XBMC which runs choppy at Finless 1.7. Still I had to go back to Finless 1.7, all of the Android 4.2 ROMs seem to have networking problems. We use an App from our national public broadcasting organization to view past programs and even live TV; this App does work on Finless 1.7 but has issues on any of the 4.2 ROMs I tried so far. Other streaming solutions seem to have the same problem.
So stock rom + latest XBMC monthly works (although not all 1080p material, for example the Monsters sample does not work) but streaming solutions fail; Finless 1.7 works with streaming but not with the latest XBMC unless you use an external player. Best would be Finless 1.7 with updates libstagefright, ffmpeg etc. modules. But newer versions are only available for Android 4.2. An Android 4.2 solution with networking just as good as Finless 1.7 would also be good, but since the RK903 WiFi chip is only supported by Rockchip itself I guess we can forget about that too.
Since mo123 seems to be the only one still posting MK808B ROM's and the quality seems to be doubtfull, I guess a good ROM will never appear any more.

The original Finless 1.7 one:
- libstagefright.so: 2619920 bytes
The Rockchip patched one:
- libstagefright.so: 2599368 bytes
The one I use now:
- libstagefright.so: 26024024 bytes
But besides that new Minix roms have also new libraries for the Mali and newer ffmpeg versions, so only swapping libstagefright.so may not be enough. I didn't notice any changes between the Rockchip patched version (I think it was a guy named Herman or something on the XBMC libstragefright development thread who made that one) and the latest I ripped from some newer ROM. Anyway no success. If there is one that works I would love to hear it.

XBMC: monthly build: xbmc-13.0-Gotham_alpha11-armeabi-v7a.apk
advancedsettings.xml: see below (but also tested without, no change, not used with Minix version)
File 1: sample "Monsters" (Full HD) from http://www.auby.no/files/video_tests/
File 2: sample "Matrix" (simple XVID SD) from http://www.auby.no/files/video_tests/
Sample files downloaded to external SD card
Results for File 1:
- With media codec it runs okay for 5 seconds, then video slows down while sound continues
- With libstagefright interruptions and screen distortions
- Of course unusable using SW decoder
Results for File 2:
- Black (no) video with mediacodec
- Black (no) video with libstagefright
- Okay using SW decoder
So back to: xbmc-20130219-32e99c7-android-hwaccel-armeabi-v7a.apk
Results for File 1:
- With libstagefright very shuttering
- Of course unusable using SW decoder
Also: all XBMC versions before august have a problem in libstagefright causing it to massively start dropping frames after some time, for me it was after approximately 30 min, others reported an hour. This was fixed early november.
Results for File 2:
- Black (no) video with libstagefright
- Okay using SW decoder
There is also this XBMC Minix version mo123 linked to (and which to my surprise actually runs on Finless 1.7...):
Results for File 1:
- With libstagefright plays okay (this is the first time I see that with the Finless 1.7 ROM)
- Of course unusable using SW decoder
Results for File 2:
- Black (no) video with libstagefright
- Okay using SW decoder
Strange enough all of them have problems with the simple SD video but do not drop back to SW although this can easliy be handled by the SW decoder. By the looks of it, the Minix XBMC version works the best on Finless 1.7.
