Installed the Minix Version of XBMC (Dec 15) on my Finless 1.7 on the mk808b. Did not have to change the build.prop configuration and the XBMC ran well. As I play with it, it seems to be the best version for XBMC for the mk808b. Thanks for all the inputs, mo.

The version referenced by mo123 is a patched version using "GT-I" al match for the version, which is wat Finless 1.7 uses. If you change the build.prop then it will stop working...

XBMC: monthly build: xbmc-13.0-Gotham_alpha11-armeabi-v7a.apk
advancedsettings.xml: see below (but also tested without, no change, not used with Minix version)
File 1: sample "Monsters" (Full HD) from http://www.auby.no/files/video_tests/
File 2: sample "Matrix" (simple XVID SD) from http://www.auby.no/files/video_tests/
Sample files downloaded to external SD card
Results for File 1:
- With media codec it runs okay for 5 seconds, then video slows down while sound continues
- With libstagefright interruptions and screen distortions
- Of course unusable using SW decoder
Results for File 2:
- Black (no) video with mediacodec
- Black (no) video with libstagefright
- Okay using SW decoder
So back to: xbmc-20130219-32e99c7-android-hwaccel-armeabi-v7a.apk
Results for File 1:
- With libstagefright very shuttering
- Of course unusable using SW decoder
Also: all XBMC versions before august have a problem in libstagefright causing it to massively start dropping frames after some time, for me it was after approximately 30 min, others reported an hour. This was fixed early november.
Results for File 2:
- Black (no) video with libstagefright
- Okay using SW decoder
There is also this XBMC Minix version mo123 linked to (and which to my surprise actually runs on Finless 1.7...):
Results for File 1:
- With libstagefright plays okay (this is the first time I see that with the Finless 1.7 ROM)
- Of course unusable using SW decoder
Results for File 2:
- Black (no) video with libstagefright
- Okay using SW decoder
Strange enough all of them have problems with the simple SD video but do not drop back to SW although this can easliy be handled by the SW decoder. By the looks of it, the Minix XBMC version works the best on Finless 1.7.
advancedsettings.xml:
------------
<advancedsettings>
<video>
<stagefright>
<!-- -1 is default, 0 is never used this codec, 1 is always use this codec, bypassing blacklist -->
<useavccodec>1</useavccodec>
<usevc1codec>1</usevc1codec>
<usevpxcodec>1</usevpxcodec>
<usemp4codec>1</usemp4codec>
<usempeg2codec>1</usempeg2codec>
<useswrenderer>false</useswrenderer>
</stagefright>
</video>
<network>
<buffermode>1</buffermode>
<cachemembuffersize>20971520</cachemembuffersize>
<readbufferfactor>4.0</readbufferfactor>
</network>
</advancedsettings>
------------
Aparently i am using the "Rockchip patched" libstagefright.so (2599368 bytes). Rom is Finless 1.7.
I can reproduce your results for the minix version.
In the Ouya version, test file 1 plays with a huge load of framedrops, but file 2 plays without problems.
(sorry for off-topic)

With some more of my near constant fooling with the 2 sticks I have, I have decided that there is a huge difference in **** pieces and ones from more reputable places like geekbuying. I cracked open my brand new MK809 "1GB/4GB" to find a knock-off MK809II v 1.1 with 256MB ram. The WiFi is garbage no matter what rom I manage to get onto it, and the performance is obviously bad too with so little ram.
My reason for posting: I personally wouldn't draw any conclusions about any rom unless I bought the hardware from a real place. Not ****. Both my 808B and my 809II(from ****) have had issues out of the box that persist no matter the rom, and it's not like I'm going to send them back to China for a refund.
Lessons learned. No more **** for me. The RK3188s from GB are around $55 now anyway.1.8Ghz Celeron 1037u based OpenELEC HTPC - Sadly PWNS all Androids everywhere

Rom works nice after some tuning
And XBMC Is working awesome for me
Only thing I miss "Contacts"
I can't get my contacts to work within Gmail
I have looked and It seems like there Is no contacts.apk In /system/app/
How to get this to work ?
I have download a few "contacts.apk" from the web, but I can not Install them
It keeps failing over and over again
Or could It be something else why I dont see my contacts within Gmail ?
I also can't seem to sync them from my Google account (no option to sync)
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

Just installed this ROM on the original MK808B and it is pretty easy. Thanks OP/mo!
However, so far the only problem I have is when I hook up to the USB-Ethernet dongle, it hangs for a few minutes.
And when I try to play a file via XBMC, over wifi, seems like the throughput is somewhat limited and lots of buffering. But I think this is a known bug for 808B. With USB dongle, even before it can open the file, it just keep hanging until I remove the dongle and wait for it to time out.
I don't seems to have this problem using Finless 2.1 ROM.
Is there anyway I can use a newer kernel? if so, can someone post the instruction on howto? (e.g. extract kernel from Finless 2.1 ROM)
For those who are interested, this ROM is based on Android 4.1.1 (Kernel 3.0.8+)
Added: Unsure the chipset in my USB-Ethernet dongle. But when hook up to WIndows. It shows using "Corechip semicondouctor" USB to Ethernet driver.

You can always compile your own 3.0.8 kernel from Omegamoon 3.0.8 sources(Complicated).
Android 4.2 kernels have more support for usb ethernet adaptors.
I have created a new updated Android 4.2 rom for MK808B but still have probelms with screen resolution and kernel and waiting for other developers to help with creating a new kernel for me.
Maybe I'll just update the Nov Android 4.2 MK808B rom and upload it later.

And can I have a small request?Can the ROM be set at HDMI Auto or first boot at 720p (instead of 1080)
Looking forward for your new release using the Nov kernel.

There is no contacts since this is a tv stick firmware and not a phone firmware.
Completely delete all Google apps though system app remover app from playstore and install the latest google apps downloaded through a pc and copy onto a flash drive and install them.
Use this website's chrome plugin to download apps directly from google play store
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ a green icon will appear in the website address, click on it and the app open in google play store will download to your pc. You need to use your gmail username and password and install an app to your cellphone to generate a code to use with the plugin.

But it didn't work for me at all
I found a different way to get it to work:
Files: http://www28.zippyshare.com/v/89327274/file.html
Copy "ContactsProvider.apk" and "Contacts.apk" to /system/app/
From there first install "ContactsProvider.apk" and second "Contacts.apk"
Next
Install "GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk" to System:
Place "GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk" file in the root folder on your sd card
Open terminal and enter these commands:
(Terminal Emulator) --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...oidterm&hl=eng
# su
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# cat /sdcard/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk > /system/app/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# reboot
Finish by going into android settings:
Settings / Account / Your Account / Enable "Contacts" (and Sync)
Done..
I think Its not the best way to do It but It worked for me
I still can't get It why Its removed in the first place
Such a important feature
