Just read the First Time User's Guide.pdf file in the ROM kit. It should explain everything.

Thanks did you follow the whole process.seems long, can I not just install cwm and flash the ROM through that or do have to root it first?

You need to flash this ROM using the flash tool in the kit.

The tricky part is getting the Rockchip drivers installed in Windows. It will not work in Windows 8.1, so no need to try. Hopefully you have Windows 7...or even better...Windows XP.

The reason you must flash using the flash tool is that you must Erase/Format the NAND by pressing the Erase IDB button. This will adjust the partition sizes to accommodate the new ROM, otherwise it might brick your tablet.

No, you don't have to be rooted before flashing the ROM. You will be rooted after you flash.

There is a template for creating your own CWM flashable version of this ROM, but you can only use it AFTER you have flashed it the first time with the flash tool. You must do this each time you change to a new ROM.

so basically follow the guide all the way through.

I have got win7 so should be okay, hopefully can't be too difficult as i have my phone rooted too with cwm on it. with my phone rooted all i do is any new roms i flash manually through cwm, put the new zip file on my sd card and flash, i can also backup previous rom and go back to it if i need to, does this work the same way?

                Re: sumvision 297

Once you've installed once as per pdf instructions in download you can backup /restore but you cannot install using zip files like a phone you use tool provided , all explained in the guide within download.

                    Re: sumvision 297

Flashing is done via tool/prog on computer.
Backup is done via clockworkmod onto sd card then stored safe elsewhere.
Yes you can backup original firmware or I think there's a link in one of the m6 Pro threads to a sumvision link for the firmware, but I think these rileyroms are head and shoulders above the stock firmware so going back is not really going to happen unless you have warranty issues.

I think 1.6/1.61 has all features working as far as I know, as for battery life I think this can improved by flashing custom kernels.....
Please Correct me if I'm wrong people

At the moment 1.6 and haven't had any issues
No time to play with kernel or the kitkat rom 1.7, next week when I'm on a better shift I will be playing. Unfortunately life gets in the way sometimes

i take it this bit is for manually installing the drivers if not recognized: can i skip this?

RileyROM's are configured to be flashed from a Windows PC. That being said, with every new Windows release, it becomes more difficult to get the drivers installed as they should be. By default, Windows tries to install drivers automatically in order to make life easier for the non-technical mainstream user. This isn't a mainstream thing you are doing here, so we need to turn the automatic features off, so we have control over exactly which drivers we are installing. If you miss this step, your driver installation WILL fail, and you can't un-ring that bell.
                                1. From the Start Menu, go to : Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Hardware -> Settings for device installation.
                                2. Check "No, let me decide" and "Never install drivers from Windows update".

Now, Windows cannot automatically download and install the wrong drivers. After you've successfully flashed a ROM to your device the first time - you can go back to the same place and restore your previous settings if you want to. At this point the drivers are installed correctly, and will remain safe.
