MK808b - Please help all i see is 2 PENGUINS

    Hello friendly forum,

I hope you can help me. I have recently purchased an MK808b from deep dark China via ****. I have cracked it open and it definitely looks like the original version. From what i see from the first thread on identifying the clones the other versions have multiple cables within it, whilst mine only has the one. There are no distinguishing writings or markings to identify it differently.

    So...

    I followed the ROM -> MK808B JB 4.2.2 "Official" - Finless 2.1 ROM (275 megs)
instructions by Finless. Thanks by the way.

I got the drivers installed on my laptop, (chose the x64 folder rather than x86 because of my win7 64 bit machine)

To boot into flash mode it only works by using the alternative method, using the regular flash tool it just comes up with error messages each time.

The flash went through fine, i didnt change any of the parameters and kept them as default as per the instructions, the device restarted as planned but on the TV all i get is two of the linux penguins, and it will go no further. I have searched the forum for 'penguins' but nothing comes up.

    HELP!

Now of course i cant click the 'connect to PC' in the android menu, so how can i get it into flash mode?
    What did i do wrong?
Whats my next step? Should I try a different ROM?

    Thanks in advance.

I will post some photos tonight.

Would that make a difference using an incorrect MK808b ROM version. I was under the impression that it would work, just wifi and BT would be affected.

Thats only if the wifi chip is the only difference. But on some devices the hardware is more different and it will not boot.

Here are some photos of the inside of my MK808B. Please can you help me identify the version and whether I have used the correct ROM.

You definitely flashed the wrong rom. Finless 2.1 is for devices with rk903 Wi-Fi chip, your device has a ap6210 Wi-Fi chip. Now you have to find a rom that works for your devices. First place to look is the sticky about the mk808b clones. Especially look in the last pages. You have nothing to loose, so you can start flashing anything you find ;-). You can enter flash mode with the paperclip method, look in the finless rom readme file for detailed instructions.
Good luck and tell us if you find a rom that works.

You never needed to do connect to pc in the android menu to flash --- I'm pretty sure Finless instructions explains holding the button down with a paperclip on the device. Button needs to be held down as it's connected to your PC, so one hand holding the paperclip onto the button, the other hand connecting device to your PC's USB.

It would have been best to back up your firmware first, as it's been mentioned that you might be able to take the kernel from your original ROM and use it with a custom rom.

I looked for that wifi chip and possibly found a rom, but requires registration... http://vondroid.com/threads/mk808b-c...chipset.15469/

              and maybe kernel:

^This person also provided a CWM Flashable zip of finless for that clone, but you won't be able to do that unless you first set CWM up http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...rk3066-devices

I installed this *.zip file using CWM recovery and it seems to me my new MK808B is doing well
I think recovery/cwm can also be accessed by holding the button down while plugging in the power.

Thanks for advice. I will let you know how i get on.

Looking through the clones post I found http://www.rikomagic.com/en/download/download_18_1.html
but this seems to be hanging on the first screen once the install is complete. I just see a RKM logo holding for over 5 minutes now.

Bueno i will run through what you have mentioned tomorrow. Forgive me but I keep coming accross the acronym CWM, what is that?

Having separate ROMs and Kernels looks complicated...

                Cheers.

CWM stands for clockwork mod which is an alternative to the stock Android recovery. With cwm installed, you can boot into a recovery menu where you can make a backup of your rom or flash different mods or entire roms.

Also note that it is normal when first booting a rom that you just flashed... that it takes longer than normal to boot while the cache and other things are setting up.... so give it a while ... probably 5 minutes or so at least before you try something else.

I left it on the boot screen for about 10 minutes so I'm not convinced. I will try some more ROMs tonight.

                      Quick questions:
When i boot the device into flash mode with the paperclip method and load on the ROMS the blue LED light is on, whilst I have a feeling Finless' instructions say it shouldn't be.

Is the only USB cable required during these routines the one in the OTG port? or is it required to have one in the power one as well?

The usb cable in the otg port is the only one you need. If the flashing process runs without errors, it is all fine and your problem is the rom, not the flashing process.

                          Thanks again.

Do i need to re-install the device drivers, because I used the wrong ROM instructions in the first place? Or like you say, if the flashing process works is it just a fault with my choice of ROM.

The drivers are all the same for the rk3066 devices

Untested by myself, finless 2.1 with the correct kernel for your fake device. Taken from www.android-hilfe.de. Don't forget to press erase nand when you flash over.

Leider konnte Ihre hochgeladene Datei nicht gefunden werden. Laden Sie die Datei neu hoch.

ALWAYS check your device if you order from places like ****, absolutely riddled with fakes. Forget about flashing any other roms and kernels, the clones have waffer thin support.
