USB from the laptop won't power it. Try plugging it into the charger, or using a good 2amp power supply.

Also, have you ever got past the first screen? I assume you tested it before flashing right? otherwise the real issue would be the unit itself.
      Currently Using:
2 x Nvidia Shield TV | MiniMX III
      Retired Devices:
      MiniMX III-II | Mk808b Pro | Mk808b Plus | Raspberry Pi 1 + 2 | UBOX R89 | MK808 | MK808b | CS008 | X1 4K (rk3288_809) | CYX_809III | Ouya | CX-919 | S82 Plus | Tronstmart R68

        Still no joy chaps.

Tried it on a different TV and now its plugged into my nexus 7 charger.
It did work first off, not sure why i tried to change anything!!

I have tried all the above ROMS and a combination of the Finless and changing the Kernel File. Not sure how to point the rockchip batch tool at a different kernel, so that might help.

It still wont get past the first logo screen, either a Google TV screen or a RKM logo. Do i need to try something more manual with CWM files or something?

This is getting frustrating!! For future reference where is the best place to buy an original MK808b? or should i be looking at a better alternative?

Thanks for your efforts so far guys.

          I have a theory...

I read that this problem of not getting past the loading screen can be caused by unplugging the device. Which of course I'm doing often by using the reset button for flash mode.

Should I be plugging the device in to a mains charger at some point during the process to give it more power than just the laptop?

            hothmonster,

If you haven't tried it already... contact who ever you purchased it from and hope they can give you a link to the original ROM.

I know some of the following will now seem like I'm just "twisting the knife" and you probably have it figured out already... but...

Before you flash any ROM always have a backup first... either one you manually have done or one provided to you by whomever you purchase the device through. It is because of these exact situations that everyone posts warnings about flashing their custom ROM's...

I know it's discouraging now... but keep looking. I suspect yours is just one you haven't tried yet and there are a lot of them out there ( ie clones/fakes )

Geekbuying.com carries a lot of devices and almost always posts links to the original ROM's and/or custom ROM's where they exist. If you do get a new one now or later... consider the quad core's instead since they are only slightly more than the dual core devices. I also recommend researching which one you decide on before you purchase... look to see what others are saying and which ones have a variety of ROM's available so you have a wider choice to select from since everyone likes different things in a ROM.

When/if you do buy something else... also pick up a 3a+ power supply for it... Most devices come with cheap PSU's which cause problems and usually can't supply enough or clean power causing them to lockup or other intermittant problems.

In the finless flasher, there's an empty white box next to kernel.img

If you click the empty white box, it opens windows file browser where you can select the replacement kernel.img.

This is the same process used in the method of installing CWM by replacing the recovery.img with ClockWorkMod

I think you just need to make sure you give it time to start, as well as a good power supply.

This is for MK802III, not MK808B. If all else fails

thanks again guys. The RKM ROMs use a different loading tool (batch tool) which seems to be less customisable.

I am hoping to get a response from the seller for a link to their original ROM. I think it booted up with a R-BOX logo when I first got it, and i havent seen that again yet.

I will have another go tonight, i think there might be something in my power supple theory.

That brick recovery guide isnt available for my version. None of the pins under the nand chip are accessible.

I have written to the supplier of my device asking for the original ROMs, but they are on holiday due to Chinese New Year (good for them!)

Ill keep trying, but it seems strange that it never gets past the initial screen.

There are two users that have the same device:

You could ask them if they found a solution.
You can also try this firmware: http://vondroid.com/resources/zero-d...-firmware.424/
It helped a user who had a different clone, but the same problem (stuck on bootscreen). Wifi will not work, but maybe it boots.

Now you have to find a rom that works for your devices. First place to look is the sticky about the mk808b clones. Especially look in the last pages. You have nothing to loose, so you can start flashing anything you find ;-). You can enter flash mode with the paperclip method, look in the finless rom readme file for detailed instructions.
Good luck and tell us if you find a rom that works.

i also got this two pinguin and...... recovery menu appear working great with flymouse
i've got the 2.1 with 720p boot and 720 kernel all finless on it.

i found what is the problem, all append to me after a flash. i discover that my reset button was stick down as i never release the paper clip. if you plug and boot the 2.1 rom with the reset pull, it will lead right to the recovery menu..... strange that but i found a way to update.....

Hopefully the NAND is OK, then. I looked in the clone thread and I see where someone told you to try a MK802III ROM --- personally, I would stick to using ROMs for MK808B.

Earlier today I read a post where someone was saying that their device was stuck in a similar fashion (just shows a logo and gets stuck) and they were saying they fixed it by just using a different power supply.

yes i have this problem before and could confirm that almost 100% sure if you change the psu or sometime just a defect, bad or loosy usb cable to psu could lead the device just don't boot. it will resolve the problem

no matter if wifi chip is ap6220 or rk901 or 903 or even humpty dumpty if you got a rom for 808 or 808b at least it's supposed to boot even if wifi module cannot been activated during the boot process it is skipped and the kernel will load all the rest normaly

                          hope it help

humm also try first a 720p boot img and kernel first to be sure it is not a tv trick..

I am also either getting 2 penguins in to right hand corner with 2.1 rom, I when I flash with the 1.7 rom I get stuck on google TV screen logo, now finless rom links are deleted I don't know where to turn..

That is not true. The companies that build these sticks can literally squeeze any piece of s...t hardware inside a MK808 (B) case . That some clones will refuse to boot any of the "normal" mk808(b) roms was proven recently.(e.g.: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...-with-my-MK808 )

Malfrat can you elaborate on how you managed to fix it?

I have definitely tried different types of USB leads and PSUs. No luck.

This latest flash with the above zero devices seems to be doing more. When it first boots up i get a recovery mode message, then formatting device, cache, and SD card messages. Then it either keep looping round through zero devices logo or and android logo.... At least its something different!
