OK, Abit confused. I think you mean Rom, not root. If not mistaken this unit comes "rooted" all ready. Please correct me if am wrong on this.

OK so I need root. can't make a advancedsettings.xml for xbmc without root. So what do I use to root it?

        Kingo root?....
Just put your advancedsettings.xml in your userdata folder on the sdcard partition... no need for root for that reason anyway.

If this can use the same ROM as the X7... then I suspect that the root methods already described for the X7's would also work here.

Just received the UT2 and they have installed your Beyond XMBC, when you open it up, they have add a Ugoos logo to it.

I had rooted it, but went back to stock. When rooted, the on button was blue and red??? When not rooted it consent blue.

The stock firmware is not bad, clean, not full of Chinese apps.

          Seems great so far...

              MY Review as a N00b

Ok...this is completely stock no ROM no ROOT (yet)

              1) Mine did NOT come preloaded with Beyond XBMC. It had the Android version installed.
              a. Removed straight away and installed Flumpster's Beyond XBMC (99%Flawless)

              2) The case is great very solid feeling metal bottom and it looks nice too. Someone artistic with good talent for cutting plexiglass could possibly make tops for it that would be cool!

              3) I got a little panicky when I saw on the outside of the packaging it was shown as an 8GB unit.
              a. I connected it and checked in Settings/storage it IS 32 GB

              4) I think the USA 120V adapter is cheap, flimsy and a bit dangerous. The EU plug prongs plug into this thing and they tend to want to pop back out. I might buy a 5V DC US wall wart as I have grand kids around and don't want anyone getting zapped. (Picture Below)

              5) It runs pretty good, seems smooth and the one or two quick streaming video tests I made at SD seemed fine. Will do some HD video soon and get back here to report what I got. I have not connected it to my surround sound system yet. I'm getting it all setup on a different TV so the wife doesn't get her shows interrupted too much. I did install Apex Launcher on it, ES File Explorer and disabled the DLNA app that came installed along with gmail and fancy widgets. Would like to know what others I can disable....

              6) Included remote ain't much, but it functions and DOES hide the notification bar with the green button.

So this is about what I have so far. I like it.

Hmm I got the correct US/Canada style AC to DC converter, not a EU to US adapter...

                      Difference to UT1?

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the differnce to the UT1 except for the bigger NAND and the Bluetooth 4.0?

It's the same chip and the same amount of RAM, right? So performance wise, it should behave very much the same or am I wrong?

Also, can somebody please test the surround with BXBMC or Archos Player?

And lastly, I assume I can flash wassers new 1.2.5 UT2 software on my UT1 without any issues, right?

Damn, now I wonder what I got. My light is all red all the time. Like half side in standby whole red when on. still stock.
I have a EU power supply with a US adapter that keeps popping out of the adapter.
                        Hope it's not a 3188T

                        How did you root?

                          Hello Southpole

Can you put pictures of the whole mainboard?
So whe can see if there is a difference between them!

Since there are seemingly obvious differences (and maybe I missed it but) could you please put where you bought your respective UT2 units from (vendors)?

This board I couldn't flash a custom rom onto, whereas my other UT2 8GB box I was able to.
