I have now downloaded the ROM from the link that pincer kindfully posted, i installed it and everything works fine, no hardware issues so far and it seems to be stable.

Where did you buy this device?

I don't know if this help but, after you flash your firmware, do factory reset (go to setting).
Here's my step from flashing to rooting.

Flash Firmware --> Root --> Factory Reset

Ah, yeah.. No idea how I got that problem in the first place. But yes, Factory reset helps.

here's some noted changes,
- it's stock rom so not rooted,
- kernel is 720p
- beyond xbmc is pre-installed
- some chinese 3rd apps
- free internal memory is 1GB now, (4.2.2 is 1,9GB)
- nand flash (internal sdcard) 5,3 GB now, (in 4.2.2 is 3.9GB)
- HDMI output is by default set to 1080p 60Hz
- "SMART BOX" boot animation
- Device known as CS968M,
- It wake's up upon tv-on via hdmi, (no need to worry to turn-off the box) just notice it.

- to root it you need kingoapp please follow tech1 and its people who help write the procedures in his thread here

- to install driver use RK_Driver Asistant - tutorial from minix forum admin here

I've just bought my CS968 today and its running Android 4.2 can this new room update the device to 4.4 Kitkat? I asked the seller if the device was rooted and he said yes, so hopefully this should work? Please advise. Thanks

The easiest way to know this if not, is by identify what date of firmware you currently use (from factory) (eg. 20140411 (ap6210) or 20140419 (mtk), or 20140313 (mtk) or 20140225 (mtk).

or you can try this ROM first, if the bluetooth and wifi is working, then you have mtk chips on the board, if not, then you have ap6210 chips.

Howcome youtube app is able to play 4K videos without much issues? XBMC still does not yet use HW+ decoding I think.

There is the millions dollar question for me . . ., have no idea . . , or maybe, youtube have super 4k movies codec..,

Well I try play it with MX Player with SW codec it run but is laggy . . . ,

@dracosc, can you try the 4k Player from them (the factory) in 4.2.2? is it working? In 4.4 Rom, it open then it close in seconds..,

With Gotham Beta 4 and with Mediacodec enabled, i can play 1080p movies very well. But Beyond,Minix or even my version of XBMC cannot work with kitkat! So, back to 4.2.2 JB!

Well, it's stock rom. To play 4k, this rom need dracos's or tech1's hands.
