It was formatted to ext fat that was the only choice, I got a 4Gb today so I'll try that tonight.

It has to be FAT32. Not many android devices support ext FAT!

No luck so far, Tell me should I be seeing something on the telly, there's nothing there at all.

The recoery.img I am using is 9190Kb and dated 28/02/2008

The wps file is usb刷机工具说明.wps 92Kb in size and dated 26/02/2014

Is that what you have Bob?

          1. 'SDcard making tool' (burnBootCard.rar) to create the SD
          2. u-boot.bin and usb刷机工具说明.wps from AMLogic_tools.rar to SD
          3. recovery.img from zip to SD
          4. boot from SD (A/V toothpick) => USB port came up and the AML flash tool would see it

and SD is FAT32 and 4. didn't work?

Exactly that and nothing at all anywhere, no change in lights, no text on the screen, nothing detected in windows.

I'm going to try another sd card now.

Maybe you don't really need the recovery at the sd (because also no factory_update_param.aml exist), the device only boot with the u-boot at the SD card and the u-boot needs the wps to support usb (but which one?) to connect to PC...
              (or rename it to 'uImage_recovery'???)

What you can also try is to replace the u-boot at PC at the directory with the 'BootcardMaker.exe' with the one at the root at amlogic_tools.rar, because I'm not really sure (remember) but I think, the 'BootcardMaker.exe' do something special with the SD card and this is, that it places something in front of the partition ... (and Bob wrothe nothing about screenoutput at hdmi, only about connection to PC)...

Just trying it without the recovery.img and still nothing.

I wonder if Eric could get the correct files for the SD card from tronsmart instead of me just trying everything

Recovery doesn't need to be there but it has a known good kernel in it so once you get the flash tool past init disk, then recovery kicks in and you can update from sdcard. However once past init disk the next thing (I forget the name) gets stuck flashing and once you get past that, you can use the flash tool 100%. I just figured it would be easier to use sd update.zip after getting past init disk.

                  So the bottom line is
SDcard maker and use the correct u-boot.bin
Then put u-boot.bin and the wps file on sdcard and this is where I at least got the PC and flash tool to see it.
I am not sure why yours is not working?

FYI, when you run the SDcard maker tool, make sure you run it as administrator!

Oh and also remember to keep holding the reset button in until windows bongs! This does take quite a bit of time (like 40 seconds or so).

                      One more thing!!!

BTW, when I bricked..... I had a solid red LED all the time. It never turned blue until after flashing init disk with the tool.

If you are not getting any LED then that is your problem!

Check your power connection! My cord or plug is flakey and if I wiggle it I can loose power! I think my cord has a bad wire in it right at the plug. If I flex it around it will stop working. If I wiggle it, it will power up again.

Do you have a volt meter and can check the power cord at the plug?

Read my 3rd post.... If you don't have a red LED even bricked, something else is wrong!

For those how are interesting in... a little "forensic"

                              Beyond Compare 3.3.5
The 'amlogic_tools\u-boot.bin' and the 'burnBootCard\u-boot.bin' are totally different.
The 'amlogic_tools\burnBootCard\u-boot.bin' and the 'burnBootCard\u-boot.bin' are identical.

                              notepad++
I don't know, if the u-boot.bin is compressed or not, but, because of the 'amlogic_tools\usb刷机工具说明.wps', I try to find '.wps' or 'usb'.
No '.wps' at 'amlogic_tools\u-boot.bin' or 'amlogic_tools\burnBootCard\u-boot.bin'.
                              'usb' only at 'amlogic_tools\u-boot.bin'.
=> I think not really helpfull.

The 'amlogic_tools\u-boot.bin' and the 'burnBootCard\u-boot.bin' are totally different.
The 'amlogic_tools\burnBootCard\u-boot.bin' and the 'burnBootCard\u-boot.bin' are identical.

I'm using diskpart to clean the sd card now and then I'll redo the SD card with the util and format using the HP utility (no quick format) and try that.

Bob, if you read this any chance you could use the HDDRawcopy util above to copy your SD card you used to an image file and upload it for me somewhere, don't do it if you are at all unsure of how to use it though, I don't want you busting anything on my behalf.

                                Cheers guys,
