iFive Mini 3GS RileyROM 1.2 KitKat

Since I released v1.0, I've been testing my process on these MTK ROM's some more. Just to limit confusion, v1.1 is an unreleased version, I decided not to upload, in favor of this version v1.2. This ROM is based on a newer firmware v1.1.0, dated 6/11/14.

There is still some problems with Titanium Backup/Restore. I reported earlier that it was fixed, but it only worked one time, and quit working again...for some reason. I'm still working on that problem.

I will be testing this ROM further to check on things that I do...but I encourage users to report their results.

    This ROM is:

    Rooted with SuperSU
    Debloated of all Chinese apps
    Google Play Store fixes added
    Init.d support added
    Busybox commands added
Your choice of stock recovery or CWM Recovery...just select the recovery file in the flash tool before flashing
Autoinstall added for apk files in your external SD "autoinstall" folder (not tested yet)
    Reboot app by Petrus
CWM created with MTK Multi Tool
New boot animation and shut animation
USB drivers included in the ROM kit

    Edit: This is now v1.2.1

I've added some choices in the size of space for apps...user app space. You can pick from the default 2gb (pretty small), or 4, 6 or 8gb.

This procedure isn't covered in the First Time User's Guide, so read here for instructions for flashing.

Of coarse, you need to get the USB drivers installed if this is the first time you are flashing this tablet. Don't worry about rooting the tablet first...that was old thinking...not required.

    1. Unzip the ROM kit somewhere on your hard drive. I like to put it on the desktop. Familiarize yourself with the files located in the RileyROM folder.
    2. Launch the flash tool, and direct it to the scatter file in the RileyROM folder. There are pictures in the First Time User's Guide.
    3. Leave the flash tool in download only mode
    4. Go down the list of items to be flashed...most will already be checked.
    5. Choose the EBR1 file of the size you want the user app space to be. It will be EBR_XXXX...the number in MB for your user app space size.
    6. Choose the EBR2 file of the same size you picked for the EBR1. It's important that these two files match.
    7. Choose which recovery.img you want to flash. Either recovery_stock.img or recovery_cwm.img.
    8. Turn the tablet off and leave it disconnected. Be sure it's fully charged before you start.
    9. Click the download button on the flash tool.
    10. With the tablet turned off, plug in the USB cable.
    11. The tablet will flash.
    12. When it's done, detach the USB from the tablet.
    13. Hold down the volume + button and press and hold power until the tablet comes on.
    14. You will be in recovery. Either CWM or Stock...it doesn't matter...except the buttons will behave a little differently.
    15. Scroll down (with stock recovery, scroll with the vol- button and confirm with the vol+ button...with CWM, scroll with both volume buttons, and confirm with the power button) the recovery menu and pick wipe data/cache...and confirm. This will erase your apps and data...so a backup is in order. I've had pretty good luck with using the backup/restore app supplied on the tablet from FNF, it doesn't do well with paid apps, though. You must do this for the new user app space to be formatted...otherwise, the tablet won't boot.
    16. Reboot to system.
    17. The tablet will take a while to boot the first time, so be patient.
    18. Once the tablet boots the first time, you can restore all of your apps.

Nice~ im really looking forward to custom roms of this tablet.
Anyway, could you find some fps problem? If you check the fps on a benchmarking program, you can find it make just 37.x fps, program like nenamark2.
The strange thing is that fps has been changed after upgrading 1.0.9(43.x) to 1.1.0.(37.x)
If you find how to change the fps fixing or make it unlimited fps, 3gs will have more smoother performance. Thank you.
    P.S i have poor English :-X

I'm still working on that. As with everything I'm doing to this tablet...things are a little different.

Cool. I think over at XDA there is a thread suggesting partition sizes can be changed but its gibberish to me!

            EDIT: Add XDA link

rooting with rootgenius does not work here!
process works but in the end tells me tough phone not rooted
and rootgenius always tries to connect to an IP
in china, which seems bit weird.
seems like i'll have to live with stock non root
well thx 4 ur work anyway

                    Sorry for the confusion.......

We've moved on from the requirement to be rooted before you flash this ROM. You can skip all of that nonsense and just flash the ROM. Upon flashing, you will have a rooted tablet. As I was learning how to do this, I added the steps I was taking to get it to work. Along the way, I've found that being pre-root wasn't necessary...except to back up your IMEI number(s). If you flash this ROM without doing a format, the IMEI number isn't erased.

I will soon update the First Time User's Guide to reflect this change, as well as other items I'm working on.

For now, just flash with the default settings as they appear when you launch the flash tool. Don't format anything.

With the tablet turned off, open the flash tool, click "download" and plug in the tablet. That's all you need to do.

                        Hello riley,

How can I install only the cwm recovery?I just tweaked with my stock recovery and it's a total mess.

                        Thanks

Hi, new member here. I've had this tablet for a few weeks now and am very impressed with it but the urge to flash it is getting strong... I'd really like to try this ROM and have seen references to a "first time user guide" to let me know how to go about fishing it, but can't find it anywhere...

Could someone point me in the right direction please, thanks.

The First Time User's Guide is in the zip file you download with the ROM kit.

The Guide, as well as the ROM are a work in progress...in fact, I'm working on it right now.

I'm getting ready to upload an update that expands user app space to 6GB.
