The names Clive and I just signed up today.

Downloaded UXBMC and even at 57, I eventually managed to get it working.

My grateful thanks to all the team who freely gave their time and talents to provide this FOC.

I will, in a few weeks download and install the full version which I will be happy to make a donation for. Will need to backup and re-install this PC first.

I started reading this thread from the start but there was to much back biting going on. To those who are not content with this freebie, impress us all with your wonderful coding skills and post links to your XBMC efforts here so we can all marvel in wonder at your magnificence.

In the meantime I'll try and learn how to get the best from this piece of kit.

A freebie has no strings attached.

But each to their own and if it works for you, then that is what will be important to you

Thanks for your words and understanding, the last GPL project some of us had been involved with had a donate button & to date 30,000+ downloads and not a single donation for years of work and that project has been on the net for over 10 years, we learned a lesson or two. UX will remain as long as it can afford to pay for it's own upkeep, we paid to give our work away last time, we are not doing that again.

I also didn't understand all of the criticism and whining about the offer to provide this download to assist setting up XBMC for rookies. It seems rather simple to just not use it if you don't want it or just not participate in the discussion about the download if you are not interested. Instead we have a thread where several members are inclined to offer opinions about how awful this offer is when all that is necessary is for those interested to ask questions and discuss the download in this thread and then make up their minds based on the merits of the download. Obviously it isn't in violation of forum rules or the thread would have immediately been deleted.

As an inept rookie, I can say it would have taken me weeks to come up with a usable XBMC setup on my own, I had already been given assistance before finding this thread so I didn't need this download and although my time isn't worth a lot, it is worth enough that I was glad to be given the help instead of having to spend a lot of time and I can decide on my own whether or not making a donation is appropriate.
