    Pipo P9 Testing/Review

I just wanted to let everyone know that Pipo has sent me a test sample of their new P9 tablet.

This is a 10.1" tablet with the RK3288 processor. The successor to the popular M9 Pro.

Based on my experience with my so far positive experience with the P1, I'm betting this will be another fantastic addition to their P series line of 3288 tablets. It's been a while since I've tried a 10.1" tablet...so I'm looking forward to it.

I've taken delivery of a sample P9 straight from Pipo...through their official seller, Pipomall.com.

    First Impressions:

This is a sleek and solid tablet. Very similar to the M9 Pro. All of the controls are on the top. I happened to have a 10.1" case that it fits perfectly. I only had to modify part of the top panel to access the buttons and power plug.

Since one of the issues with the P1 was low volume...the first thing I tried was to see what the sound was like. This tablet plays audio loud and clear. There aren't any external volume keys, but the on-screen volume soft buttons work just fine.

The next thing I checked was the display quality. Among the sample video files provided was a 4k video which gives a brilliant example of a crisp and smooth video playback.

As with the P1, the Antutu score was 39700 with the stock firmware...but I'm sure I can squeeze a few more points with a custom ROM on down the road a bit.

As mentioned in the thread below, the tablet took 4 days to reach me. I found when I opened the box that the tablet was turned on in sleep mode with a battery level of 50%. I don't know whether it was 100% when it left Hong Kong, but 50% in 4 days isn't bad. I'm not really one of those guys to leaves my tablets turned on all the time...I have a habit of powering down before I put it away...but for those of you who rely on decent standby time...that's a plus. If you are really into battery savings, you can take the brightness down to 50% and not really be able to tell much difference.

I've been dealing with a bunch of 8" tablets these days...so it's refreshing to get my hands on a full size tablet for once. At 9.7", my P1 is a whopper, too...and I like it really well...but I really like the P9's wide screen aspect ratio. My early tablets were 10.1", so it's refreshing to get back to it.

The stock firmware is very clean. There's only one Chinese store app installed that I need to get rid of, but otherwise it is pure Android 4.4.2. I wonder whether Pipo has plans of introducing 4.4.4 any time soon...since their P4 firmware is 4.4.4. We shall see. The stock widgets are useful, too. Pipo has gotten away from their Metro looking launcher...opting for the standard KitKat launcher...which is nice.

I'm sure there might be some apps in Google Play Store that aren't compatible, but I haven't found any of my staple apps have trouble installing. I'm not much into game play, but I've tested Chrome, Tapatalk, Email, Gmail, Calendar, Xplore File Manager, Youtube and Netflix, and they've all worked without a hitch.

Wifi on this device...just works...no problems whatsoever connecting at home or work...even on some crappy public hotspots. I haven't tested tethering from my smart phone yet...but I will add that as time permits.

GPS had no problem initializing, once I stepped outside for about 5 minutes. I had to go into settings and manually select the time zone...then it sped up the GPS being able to get a fix on my location.

That's all I have time for at the moment, but stay tuned as I discover more with this good tablet.

I should take delivery of this tablet later this week, so stay tuned to this thread for an un-boxing review and some testing results. I've already made some custom ROM versions based on pre-released firmware...so I will play with the stock setup for a while and then flash and test my ROM's.

    Stay Tuned!!!!!!!
    Looks like some nice hardware!

I wouldn't mind getting my hands one!

GREAT NEWS!!!!! As promised by my friends at Pipo, my P9 has arrived....and I'm spending some time today testing it.

The tablet shipped 4 days ago out of Hong Kong. When I opened the box, I found the tablet was left on in sleep mode. The battery was at 50%. Not bad for 4 days of standby. With about 3 hours of continuous use, I'm down to 32%. Still not bad.

GPS works great, after setting the correct time zone and stepping outside for about 15 minutes.

            Wifi connects without a hitch.

            4k video looks brilliant.

            Sound is loud enough.

Antutu score out of the box was 39700.

All of my email accounts connect perfectly.

Give me a little time to put together a properly organized review...but if you are considering an upgrade to one of Pipo's rk3288 tablets...this P9 is gonna be good.

Another amazing thing about this tablet is the ability to charge via USB.

I'm still testing battery consumption, but if it does become an issue...it's really easy to stick on an external battery. I have one that has 10000 mAh that I've used on my 8" tablets and my cell phone that will work just fine with the P9.

Good idea to use external battery. But also it would be great to have the autonomy of the Pipo P1. Is it equipped with a 8800 mah battery?

                  p9 arrived today

My P9 arrived today! Very happy with it. Can someone confirm that the P9 power adapter is the same is a M9 adapter? The adapter shipped with the P9 is not suitable for European countries. Now I use a converter. But for convenience I would prefer an adapter without a converter. Since I can only find adapters for M9 online, I was wondering if they were the same, so I could just buy a cheap M9 adapter.

The adapter appears to be the same as for the M9 and M9 Pro...and other M series tablets. Also, as stated above, you can charge via the USB port.

4days to discharge of about 50% is not a real deep sleep in my opinion...
I think it's not good enough for me...

Yes, but I don't know what the charge was when it started its journey.

                            Hi,
in terms of battery duration, which one (P1 or P9) is better then? The P1 even if it has a greater resolution screen? (even if the screen itself is a little smaller in dimensions?)

I would guess P9 is better considering the lower screen resolution. Maybe Riley could tell us the real capacity of the battery
