Pipo P9 Testing/Review

Perhaps I can set both tablets side by side and compare them. I should have time tomorrow to test them. Hell, I might even fire up the M6 Pro and M7 Pro and try them all.

Well, I was too busy today to do deep sleep testing on the P9 because I got a new firmware version to develop. Stay tuned for RileyROM version 1.3. I just need to upload it tonight
With this new firmware, and some extensive tweaking I've added quite a few changes to the build.prop and a few other tweaks.
With the stock launcher running I was able to get a 41293 Antutu score. Running Apex Launcher it takes the score down to 39000. The stability score is consistent at 350. With all of those changes I think now is the time to test sleep mode to see what the savings will be on battery drain.

After flashing my v1.3 ROM last night, and getting everything loaded, I noticed I had gotten down to 20% on my battery. I hadn't had it on the charger for a couple of days. I decided to try out the USB charging feature.
I happen to have a battery pack for charging USB devices, so I connected it...and it started charging right away. I finished watching a movie I downloaded, and noticed that it only increased the charge a couple of percentage points, but it ran for an hour playing a video.
I turned to tablet off and connected it again, and the tablet booted to system, instead of showing the battery charging animation as it does when you plug in to the regular charger.
I let it charge all night to find this morning that it depleted the battery I had hooked up to it....and the battery only showed 40%.
I plugged in the regular charger, and it didn't take long to charge to 100%.
So, I'm thinking that the USB charging is only secondary...and is only intended to get you by until you can make it to a normal charger.Randy

By the way, good to know that gps has been fixed, but what about it's sensitivity ?
When you find some spare time, would you install gpstest and compare P9 to a well known device, such as a Samsung tablet ?
It would be very meaningful to see differences in time to fix, number of satellites in view and their signal strength ...
Many thanks !

I haven't had time to actually put a clock to it. My impression subjectively is that battery consumption on the P9 and the P1 are amazing.Randy

In terms of build quality, there is no comparison: cube is a lot better.
In terms of pure performaces, cube perform very well (I don't see any lack of horsepower), but RK3288 of P1 and P9 is more powerful of at least 20%. Also poweron time of RK3288 is superb (15-19sec) wrt the cube talk 9x (25-29sec).
Display is better for the cube (G+G display, same display of iPad air) than for pipo (P+G cheaper)
In terms of stability, cube is 100% rock solid (cube doesn't have any reset pinhole, probably there is a reason for this!!!!)... pipo sometimes locksup or reboot...
So, it depends on what are you looking for...
I know very well how are built inside both pipo and cube, but it is better I don't say anything about that!
What I can say now is that I would not think to go back with pipo. I'm having a really beautiful experience with the cube. With my old pipo m6pro, for all the time I used Jelly Bean it was a nightmare, It was slightly better switching to kitkat, then pipo stopped development and they left the m6pro as an unfinished tablet...
The very bad thing of the cube is battery charging time of 7 hours!if you appreciate my efforts this is the link for any donation:

I'm a fan of 4:3 view because is the best for navigation and reading (i'm not interested in movies on a tablet, but in that case 16:9 is the best format!)if you appreciate my efforts this is the link for any donation:

Pipo P9 charging question
Hi. I'm fairly new to this forum thing so I'm a little nervous. I've owned three Pipo tablets. The M9 Pro, P1, and P9. I updated from the M9 to the faster P1. I've been unhappy with the amount of heat that the P1 generates. The P1 has also developed a discoloring especially on a gray background near the bottom right corner in a backwards L shape. I was just wondering if anyone else with a P1 has experienced any discoloration or fading on the right side of the screen where it seems to get the hottest.
I was fortunate enough to get a P9 which arrived last week. I am very happy with it and realized that I actually prefer the 16:9 ratio to the P1 4:3. It also runs much cooler. I have only encountered one issue when charging the P9. When I plug the charger into the P9 the tablet won't turn off. If I turn it off and then plug in the charger instead of showing the charging battery icon it boots back on. If I try to power it off with the charger plugged in it always restarts. Should't the tablet be able to charge while it is powered off? Is this happening to anyone else on their P9?
Sorry for the long post. Any reply is appreciated. Thanks.

I am also able to confirm that the "charging as always turned on" occurred to me with M8HD, until Riley fixed the issue with the latest rom!So U need to wait and look for another update.
I too have had a "bittersweet" experience with this brand: overall quality is not bad at all, or, at least was not bad one year ago or something like it, especially if compared to other brands on same price level.
The problem is that, if it wasn't for Riley, the developement of this tablet (M8HD) would have already halted some times ago, with a very incomplete and not-at-all-optimized rom... since Pipo switched to other models... while I still like a lot the M8HD and it suites more than enough my current needs (very limited), it is as if I have "wasted" a lot of time, at the very beginning when I purchased the tablet and its specs were quite good for the time... since it was NOT working as good as it was intended for the specs it had..
The "problem" now is that other manufacturers, in the meantime have perfected their production quality and are creating some interesting and advanced models... and it seems they are also followed better and have support and growing number of fans and non professional developers and flashers and so on...
From my point of view, Randy Riley (and all of his work) makes all the difference "here".. I am still considering Pipo because of Him... (of course also because I have my M8HD which works fine, now, and I hope to see another ROM soon, now that the sources have been limitedly released, which could at least optimized a little bit more the features of the model, which is "old" but not to be scrapped yet...).
But it will be a really hard time if Pipo will not provide a FAR better support and it they will not put more care into manufacturing... because the competitors are not still at watching...

Internal HW of Pipo tablets is a TOTAL MESS, kept together with the tape...Other brands now are better engeenered!
On SW part, Randy is doing a vey good job, but he can't do miracles without a good support from Pipo, this is why many pipo tablets still remains as an unfinished devices! Of course this is not a Randy's fault!
All these reasons lead me to leave pipo and go to another brand.
They are not improving, PIPO SW and HW developers continue to make the same mistakes from tablet to tablet!
I don't understand their politics...
It's really a pity!if you appreciate my efforts this is the link for any donation:
