I no but it may as well be a brick if I can't get XBMC working well on it

      You say that -
      - your firmware is built against firmware that does not implement HEVC as codec in it's a/v libraries (and these are very old sdk-s...) which mismatches with my build of XBMC.

How can I implement this Codec?

here's my first Android release for ENY EM8 device.

        Version 2014-09-03

        - Kernel 3.10.53
        - Rooted (SuperSU)
        - Based on latest Amlogic SDK (2014-08-23)
        - XBMC 13.2 included
        - wifi/bluetooth/ethernet working
        - real sleep

        Download under Firmwares tab.

I need feedback. M8 device I have is older one.
Thanks stane. Will be definitely trying this but to be honest, i'm really really looking forward to your linux build

          Clean

-installs cleanly, with full erase of old data
          - UI feels snappy, YouTube 4K videos play smoothly
-Play Store apps (paid and free) install fine
          - XBMC playback great so far, from NAS and MashUp HD. No A/V sync issues. So far, no interlacing detected.

Some really good work here. One large drawback: TCP/IP buffers for Ethernet are too small. 20 mbps speeds on average compared to 90 mbps on Finless and Lifeforce. Fix that, and this becomes a winner. But note: HDMI-CEC doesn't switch TV to the right channel on wake-up from deep sleep.

Currently running Stane's linux build. Does this need to be installed through the UPDATE app on top of Finless ROM 1.7 (for example)? Or can I install it through recovery?

              PostScript

It seems this ROM disables the M8's normal recovery method. I am no longer able to get to recovery using a toothpick..so going back may be a challenge!

Did not notice that, when tried recovery, sdcard containing recovery.img was in sdcard slot so if it's not flashed, it will boot recovery.img from sdcard.

Well - there seems no way to make the box read the SD card on boot up. It just goes straight to loading the firmware. So looks like I'm wedded to your beta for the duration - until I can figure this out. I tried Flashify on a stock recovery .img but it wouldn't pick up the file..

POSTSCRIPT: Got recovery back by using a different SD card with uboot.bin and a recovery.img from a Finless rom.

I tested it on my box now without sdcard in it, it boots into recovery when reset button is pressed and I plug the power. Strange...

Just extract fw files to sdcard and flash it using reset button.

@stane dobro but tcp buffers need fixing ethernet will test wfi in next few hours

                            (min / default / max)
                            read buffers: 4096 1048576 2097152
                            write buffers: 4096 524288 2097152

wifi fails for me no connection although i can see more signal strengh on all visible 2.4 and 5 ghz signals

                            also su 2.04 allot better
also google play store needs to be updated to 4.9.13
                            Google search to 3.6.14.1337016

for you stane - volim piti while you waiting for new kernel to compile guys keep in mind that kernel take long time to compile on pc depending on pc spec dual core & 4 gigs ram takes 5hrs, so for every fix stane needs to do and dependent on his pc spec it takes hours then hours to upload if he has poor upload we are not all on mega speed internet speeds

for example 1Mbit upload for me

No worries - I have recovery back. Must have been a glitch in my SD card.
If you do uprate the ethernet buffers, I'll go back to your rom in a flash - no pun intended..
