I just received my replacement S89 in the mail last night. I opened it this morning. It was well packaged with plenty of protective bubble wrap.

Upon inspection, it appears to be a brand new unit. It even has the plastic shrink wrap around it.

I will remove shrink wrap and inspect it further before setting it up this afternoon. I will report my findings.
It could be a new unused unit but unfortunately that doesn't mean its a repaired unit.

Only time going to tell short of opening it to if its flawed or not.

      My Issue

So I guess I have been one of the 'lucky' ones and had my s89-h early on, but had no issues what so ever (of course, when I use it it tonight it will probably die from jinxitis)...

I would expect any manufacturing flaws to be solved by now. Has anyone ordered/received one recently that is defective ?

I want a second device, and the minix is slightly too expensive, and I kinda want to be able to copy the two devices so preference would be to re-order another s89-h, but all these stories got me worried.

Personally I have no issue with Geekbuying, but they are a business and obviously want to make a buck with these low margin products.

Anyone know of a reputable place that wont rip me off that i could send my box in to get my hdmi port re soldered?

I tried a tv repair place locally and all he succeeded in doing is bridging the contacts and now it wont power up.

          Sorry for the long delay.

I finally busted out my replacement S89 and set it up. It had shrink wrap and appears to be new.

          It had Gotham 13.2 installed.

I installed the Super Repo and then went with Genesis, IceFilms, etc.

HD movies and HD tv shows work fine. Audio is in sync. No buffering.

This unit is an improvement over my pre-order unit from last year in that you can actually power it off all the way instead of just putting it on standby.

I know it's early, but so far I give this unit 10/10.

The only glitch was having to hand over $12 for shipping back to me when the warranty indicated I should have received free shipping. As I mentioned before, I didn't want to argue in English with a Chinese speaker so I just paid the $12.

Overall, my expectations have been met.
