The R28 uses the same wifi and remote, so it might work correctly. Other user with R28 already installed ROM and it worked.
You might need to flash the boot.img and/or only resource.img from your stock ROM released after October 2014 for best compatibility.

No, the 2GB one runs great.
I'm getting another one for free since I help out with the firmware and troubleshooting

Will get a 4GB one soon.
Then I'll try to combine my new ROM with a dual-boot Linux image.

Yes please! The GoogleTV version of YouTube is already perfect for TV viewing, no need for an air mouse and excepts incoming video recommendations from android phones and tablets.

Leanback launcher - Not available on KitKat, maybe still use Nova Launcher(Also has Android L theme)

Youtube for Google tv - Not updated anymore, normal Youtube works better
    - es file explorer - Yes
    - oakla speed test - Yes
    - avast Antivirus - Yes, hope it doesn't slow down system
    - kodi with libmedia hack - Yes, will replace SPMC

xposed installer with the vulnerabilities patched - Good idea

Will also make a clean ROM without apps.

    ES file explorer.
    Petrus reboot 1.2.2/4
xposed installer with the vulnerabilities patched as identified by bluebox security scanner.
Whatever is considered to be the best version of XBMC with patch for hdmi passthrough applied.
