Hooray. Sorted. Got back to TWRP and restored to the previous rom. It's easy once you know how it seems. Thanks a lot for your help. Let's hope the wifi can be made to work

      Hi,

      Thanks for your good work.

I will try maybe next week when I get some time.

Wifi on M8HD is AP6210, and I think files is missing in etc/firmware/nvram_ap6210.txt and maybe others

I see, i must have looked at the wrong defconfig, was under the impression it was ap6330.
Changing a few files should make WiFi work.

I'm happy to give it another go once the wifi is working - without wifi there wasn't much I could try out. Good luck with it.

I think I've managed to sort out the battery drain on the original ROM. I know a few other people have mentioned this so thought I'd post what I've done as maybe it will be of use to others. I'm obviously a bit of a newbie with this stuff so let me know if this makes no sense or is just plain stupid!

So the problem has been that the tablet drains in around 2 to two and a half hours. It also took about 6 to recharge. This isn't much use if you want a portable device. It's down to my m8 being the version without 3g. So, I uninstalled anything that looked like a telephone using titanium, but that didn't seem to have much effect - mainly because nothing was actually getting uninstalled. So instead I disabled all the telephony stuff via settings/apps. I disabled com.android.smspush, dailer, email, exchange services, and network location. The battery was charging while I did this and I've attached a screenshot that shows the rapid drain, the slow charge and then the sudden leap when I disabled the apps. I suspect network location is the one causing the drain, but that's just a guess. Does this make sense? So far the battery seems to be draining much slower than before. I'll update later if anyone is interested.

As mentioned on another thread either:

              1. Rename the ril library (/system/lib/libril-rk29-dataonly.so )
              2. turn on 'Airplane mode' - wifi and bluetooth can be toggled on/off even with this on!

I was already following the later method (see pic), but there was still a massive battery drain. Doing the above - my post - seems to have doubled battery life - but at 4 1/2 hours in use it's still not great. But anyway, thanks for the tips, I'll try the ril lib thing later.

Sorry to be banging on about this (and the double posting above) but in fact there wasn't much improvement. The screenshot shows that even in airplane mode and with everything disabled 'cell standby' is still using loads of battery. I've gone for the renaming the ril library method which has now reduced the usage figure to 3% rather than 13%. Maybe this method will finally stop it draining the battery!

I've got 0.3% battery drain per hour in deep sleep.

                    percentage : 27% less in 3d 6h 30m with 30% cell standby : => approximately : 12 days standby !

We can desactivate some service in boot.img as I do before but this boot will be only for wifi tablet.

But as I remember, You will not get many less battery drain.

I do still have the M8HD lying around here and from time to time I do recharge it.The battery is still in a very good condition.
I am writing this post currently on this old tablet. :-)
What has been the latest custom ROM for this device and is that still available somewhere?
I know I had installed in 2014 a 4.4.2 version on it (probably a Riley version, build number has the timestamp 20140219.181341).
And are the sources still available somewhere?
