    Hi,

We are trying to put some weird clone of CX919 into flashing mode.
    The full discussion is here:

The NAND chip datasheet is here:
Access 900,000+ datasheets for electronic components. Find and download PDF datasheets for semiconductors, diodes, transistors, and more.

Can someone help us please with the right combination of pins?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I have little different nand chip then it is deccribed so i'm wondering what pin's should I connect?

    Details:
    MK808B
    TEAN E120339
    Rockchip RK3066
    MT5931SA
    MT6622
    BTGCB5 18
    Toshiba TC58TEG6xxxx - NAND
My device is also bricked because I didn't check before what exactly hw do I have under the hood

I went all the way to the end of this thread hoping someone had unlocked the secret but to no avail. I've got a MK908II that won't go into recovery mode. I was able to do the pin 8/9 thing and it comes up in MaskRom mode. I've tried every port on the PC and 3 different cables. I'm still unable to erase the NAND and get the same error everyone else does.

    *sigh*

Just wanted to post my results as well.

    Hi.
A have MK808. It is bricked.
The device is interesting. Lable on PCB - MK808B_V1.0_2012.10.24, but WiFi chip is - RK901.

In ROM Flash Tool I see "Found RKAndroid MaskRom Rock USB. No matter - with pressed button or with short 8&9 pins on NAND. Allways - Found RKAndroid MaskRom Rock US
When I try to erase NAND I see - "ERROR: Download boot failed", "Erasing IDB failed".
And I can't to Flash any ROM.
I was trying two PC, seven USB ports, five USB cables.

Have You any idea? Is NAND dead?

    Thank's.

The MK808 has a reset button BUT it will only put it into ROCK Loader mode (flash mode). The only way to get it into MASK ROM mode it so short 2 NAND pins (like what the UG802 short pads do). I wish the MK808 had these pads to short but they do not.

Now you might ask "Bob, why would I want to put the unit in MASK ROM mode?". Good question!
If NAND gets corrupted or you flash another ROM with a loader not made for it, it can screw up NAND and from that point on you will get erased IDB problems, it wont flash properly and give errors, or a host of ROM flashing issues. The ONLY way to fix this is to put it into MASK ROM mode.

So because Freaktab user natxito is having this problem I figured I would help. I took my unit apart and pulled off the heatsink over the NAND memory chip. I had to do this so I could see where pin 1 was and what the chip part number is so I could look up the spec sheet.
NAND is H27UCG8T2ATR. I could not find this datasheet but this chip map is the same:

TECHNICAL: On most NAND chips by shorting pins RB and R/E together or in some cases RE and CE, it makes the processor boot up and think there is no NAND memory and puts it into MASK ROM MODE. It also "may" erase NAND.

OK so here is a text explaination of how to do it. Later I may do a video if I have time.

On the MK808 pry the cover off at the HDMI port. It helps to plug in a HDMI cable partially into the connector. Then use a screw driver to lift up the lid. The lid is the thinner of the 2 covers. Slowly pry around the edges of the case as you pull the snaps and remove the covers.
NOW be careful! There are 2 antenna's. One on each side of the case with short wires. So go easy and try not to damage the wires or antennas.

Once the have it apart the NAND chip is on the side of the board that DOES NOT have the USB etc connectors soldered to it. The chip is under the heatsink and the closest chip to the HDMI connector. If your holding the board with the HDMI connector at the top, pin one of this NAND chip is in the upper left corner of the board.

Now you can try to pry off the heatsink if you like. It is pretty easy as it is just taped on with heatsink tape. However if you screw up the tape doing so, you will have to go to an electronics store and by more. Clean off the old and install new tape. THIS IS NOT REGULAR TAPE! It has to be heatsink tape.

If you want to try this without removing the heatsink you still can do it.
    1) Start up my ROM flash tool from my ROM kit. NOTE: you must already have the drivers installed etc or this WILL NOT WORK!
    2) Hook up the USB cable to the OTG port of the MK808. Its the side port not the rear port.
    3) Look between the heatsink and the board and you can see all the pins of the NAND chip. Again pin 1 is at the top. Count down to pins 8 & 9.
    4) With a needle or a pin put the pin between pins 8 and 9 and hold it there. You are trying to short these 2 pins so make sure your actually on them.
    5) No plug in the USB cable to your PC to power on the unit.
    6) If you are shorting the pins the PC should bong and the flash tool should say at the bottom "Found RKAndroid MaskRom Rock USB". If not, then your not shorting the pins properly OR you never had the drivers loaded to begin with.
    7) Good! If you have MASK ROM mode then now erase NAND (IDB). Let it finish.
    8) Flash the ROM. YOu must have the loader check box checked or it will complain and tell you a loader must be flashed.

Thats it! You should be unbricked and hopefully your ROM flash problems should be gone. If not, you can try to repeat the proceedure but if you still have issues, alas, you may have a failed NAND chip.

    Bob

worked 1st time round, thankyou bob, love your dedication, cheers

Awesome - ty very much for this, I've already recovered a sick stick many times already trying to locate a working firmware.

    Flash Failed

    I'm stuck !
I'm trying to flash the ROM but getting Error wait for Loader Rock USB timeout after Reset device OK.
I've done the pin 8/9 shorting and getting 'Found RKAndroid MaskRom Rock Usb' but trying to flash the ROM reverts the flash tool to 'No Found' and my computer fails to recognise the Usb device. The only way I can reconnect is to hold the reset button in whilst plugging in the Usb.
I guess I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    For this nand :
    #RB : pin 7
    #RE : pin 8
    #CE : pin 9

I have the same NAND, but doesn't work for me (mk809III).
When I do this manipulation, my mk809III isn't detected by windows.
When I boot my mk809III without this manipulation, windows detect the device but I have the "No Found..." message :/

EDIT : yee! it's ok! I have tried with a real windows computer (Before I used a vmware)

Right, I have an Reko MK819 (as above) I've put a rom on that was working perfectly for about a month but now its completely dead, no lights no nothing, it does warm when the power adaptor is plugged in. Can anybody help me unbrick it, if it is bricked at all? I've tried this method with no success and tried the minix neo x5 process, will this nand have different pins to shot does anyone know please?
    Thanks for any help,

    Nothing helps... :-(

I tryed to flash my device and chose "reboot into bootloader mode" in quick reboot app (BIG MISTAKE), device got recognized and then I tryed to flash rom with the flash tool. It said "test failed" after choosing "flash rom" and now I'm having a nice black brick ) Nothing helps to bring it back to life. Then the power is plugged in there is no blue light, PC does not recognize it neither with reset pressed nor without it. I also tried the "pin method" - still no recognition... Any ideas ? My guess is that I've broke the bootloader or burned it down somehow...

    Thanks forward for any suggestions.

    Hello,

I have a problem with my Measy U2A. Few months ago I bricked my Measy U2A (now I don't remember what happens). Today I try to unbrick it, but there's a problem. I installed drivers, my laptop recognise RK30 device but when I try to erase nand or upload new firmware there's a "download boot fail" or "download idb load failed". In RKBatchTool I have blue square, so device is in Maskrom Mode. I don't know what to do now. Tried other PC's and the other USB cables - nothing new happens, still download fail...
    Could anybody help me?

    Regards,

In fact... some of the instructions given earlier in this thread would have required you to open the device IF you had followed them... If you don't follow instructions/suggestions any better than that... you won't get the issue fixed.
By short pins 8 & 9 of NAND Chip,my device has been fixed. Now It can run in to main screen android. All is ok but may be the firmware has some problems so my device connect throught wifi slowly. I'm looking for another firmware.
