Is anyone working on this? I know I should ask Eny but you all know how that turns out
The box is old now so it's in the hands of a developer with the aptitude to make a firmware sure;y.What is the world if you don't explore?

I'm a fresh owner of OTT M8S box. It comes with preinstalled "KOT49H.20150827 test-keys". Some functions were not working well so I decided to install firmware mentioned in post #176. I used the update app and selected the .zip file from SD card. The installation process was smooth and ended up with a booted new version (wifi was not working). After plugging off the device and starting again the device did not booted at all (blank black screen).
I have tried some firmware versions posted here (SD card method with the toothpick). But the situation is still the same. Any ideas how to fix this issue?
Any help would be appreciated.Tronsmart s89 Elite - Finless 2.1 ROM

Maybe can try this http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php...183846-151026/ since yours already having problem. I also have the same "KOT49H.20150827 test-keys" , apparently there are many versions of m8s. Although mine is working now. I had another similar box but with this firmware "m8s.ap6330.201509251800" , still searching whether is latest version that can be compatible with "KOT49H.20150827 test-keys"Last edited by athlonx; 30 October 2015, 16:39.

i just ordered this one from here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ilpage_o00_s00
Wonder if that was such a smart decision....? hoping there is a 5.1.1 update firemware for this? would plan on installing NovaLauncher to remove the extra rubbish pre-installed on it...

Hi all,
I have made a boot card with uboot.bin and ROM from cyx_m8s_ap6330_8g2g_150728_SD .
I have released the tooth stick when I saw the S812 logo and when it disappeared. From then the signal to the HDMI disappeared too and only the blue led is on (and the spdif laser too). No red light at all from LED, only blue. It didn't started any recovery or visible ROM updating. I waited for about 5 -6 minutes but nothing since then. It is a blue lighted BRICK.
Please anybody to help with sugestions : what is the right ROM / uboot.bin for the box with the following board:
Thanks for the help in advance!

You can try a different TV or an AV cable instead or cover the m8s with a pot before turning on (to block wifi, don't laugh!),
If you have no other TV/cable, try upgrade to a different version with no TV connected.
Let us know if it helped.

I think I have a wrong u-boot.bin and probably recovery.img. I am sure that the CPU is S812 since I tested it with H.265 and it is 4 core Amlogic CPU at 2GHz. It was performing well - BD3D ISO was played well in Vidon XBMC. The only problem was that I could not install many of the applications from Google Play.
I even tried with USB Burning Tool and shortening pins 29 and 30 on the NAND chip. Not recognised device. The same with boot SD card -no blinking LED for flashing.
Just a permanent blue LED and red laser from the SPDIF and no any other sign of life.Last edited by orlie; 12 November 2015, 10:59.

Alright guys, I also got a few M8S from Aliexpress, and I think they might be a clone. It's working good otherwise on stock firmware except for the fact that I can't turn off HDMI auto detection, upon every boot up or reboot, it just detects the default resolution setting from the TV and uses that. Also, I don't think it has a AP6330 chipset. I can't post pics right now however, the chipset where the wifi chipset should be is black chip with KM3208070. Also, it has one of those small glued on heat sink, instead of the one with springs.
One thing is that I can't get into recovery to backup the image. I tried many different twrp recovery for this including one recommended earlier in the thread but no luck. Please, if someone could direct me towards how to backup the rom image, it would be very helpful.

The seller doesn't provide any support unfortunately.
Yeah, it's weird, I also tried a few times however, it doesn't boot into twrp for me. The only thing I don't like about the stock rom is that the resolution settings don't stick after a reboot even though HDMI auto detection is turned off. Also, on the bottom of my M8S the sticker that says M8S also says v4. So, maybe this is a newer design for this box as the firmware is dated October 21st.
