Big question here. Do you want the ZIP format or flash tool. I am saying this because if you want me to repartition nand for more app space (since you have 8GB to work with) it must be via flash tool. I really do not like making 2 different kits especially since we really cannot afford the bandwidth for download anymore.

    Bob

Hoping for your ROM,I am newbbie ,and bought the 4GB ,so u will do the ROM together,or not ,thanks for your reply.

Any release date for this ROM?
Till then could the UG802 ROM be used with the 802 III?

It's a little odd, that ROMs are made for other sticks based upon mk802 III, and this very stick gets no custom ROM at all.
Say that no ROM will be made but don't make us believe that there will be.

Heads up guys, I have tested the UG802 1.7 rom on the MK802 III and it works great!

Copy and pasted from my inital post in the UG802 thread below

Hi guys let me start by saying a big thank you to Finless Bob and 2Dark4u for this excellent rom, if it weren’t for your tireless efforts most of us with Android mini pc sticks would be stuck with buggy manufacturer firmwares. Great job and keep up the good work!

I received my MK802 III from geekbuying about 3-4 weeks ago and while initially quite impressed with it (using stock manufactures firmware) I started to notice some of its major short comings after only a few days, which were

            Cons
Unable to display 720p or 1080p correctly.
Only a very limited Android market available.
No way to hide the status bar at bottom of screen.
No way to reboot the MK802.3 had to pull out the power lead every time.
Device would randomly lock-up/reboot from time to time (even with 2amp 5volt charger)
Device sold as up to 1.6Mhz CPUwhen in-fact it wont go above 1 - 1.2Mhz.
Couldn’t adjust the CPU clock above1.2 Mhz even after rooting the device.

One of the major problems I was expecting was poor wifi but I needen't have worried at all.

            Pros
WiFi working great, good speeds and rock solid connection. (only on a non secured ssid, ie no wpa/wpa2 security, in fact no security at all! Otherwise it wouldn’t connect)
I used mac address filtering on my wireless router and set it up soonly the MK802 III could connect to it. Speedtest.net shows the mini pc stick as maxing out my Virgin media internet connection at 30Mbps download and 4Mbps upload, no problems streaming 720p MKV movies frommy NAS wirelessly.
I only tried one 1080p clip which was a 2 minute MP4 trailer of the new bond film streamed from my NAS wirelessly again no problems at all. I use MX player for all my media content as it does hardware acceleration on HiDef material.

            Benchmarking
AnTuTu score on stock geekbuying firmware/rom was 5400, not to bad but noting special tbh.

So after a few weeks using the stock ROM I decided to have a look online to see if there are any custom ROM's for this mini pc stick, that’s when I came across Freaktab.com and this ROM which is advertised for the UG802 mini pc.

As far as I could work out the UG802 is basically the same as theMK802 III in terms of its internal hardware so I decided to take achance and flash it to the MK802 III.

I download the ROM and followed Bob's excellent instructions in the read me to flash it onto my MK802 III using the 'ROM FlashTool' provided in the download.
The whole flashing procedure went smoothly without any issues and only took a few minutes to complete.
I first tried the 1080pp kernel and boot image:
            kernel_1080_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120.img
            boot1080.img

Wow what a difference it makes to the home screen, every app icon looks pin sharp albeit a little on the small side with small hard to read icon labels, this of course is to be expected at 1080p and couldeasily be solved by using 'GO launcher ex' and customising the size of the icons/labels.

            Pros
            1080p resolution
            Full Android Market
Can now hide the status bar manually
            Rom comes rooted
Can now raise or lower the CPU speeds between 252Mhz and 1275Mhz
            Rock solid WiFi performance
            Reboot option now available
720p MKV stream fine over wireless network from my nas
1080p MP4 streams fine from my nas (bond film trailer)

            Cons
Quite laggy when dragging apps around on the home screen
The status bar can be difficult to bring back after hiding it with the down arrow, sometimes it just refuses to pop up again after hiding it (have to reboot)

            Benchmark
Antutu score with this kernel and boot img is 8300 (max 1272Mhz min252Mhz interactive)Due to the lag on the home screen and small icons/text I decided to flash the 720p image

            Flashed Mk802 III with:
            kernel_720_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120.img
            boot720.img

Perfect looking home screen, apps and text are now much easier to read and still look very sharp even at the lower resolution, also the lag that I was experiencing on the 1080p rom has completely gone, infact its very quick indeed when scrolling from one screen to the next or going into or out of the app draw. This rom not only looks great but feels very fast as well.

            Pros
            720p resolution (ideal for me)
            Very fast
            Rock solid WiFi
CPU can be adjusted from 252Mhz to 1275Mhz
            Comes Rooted
Streams everything I have thrown at it from my nas over wifi(720pMKV,MP4,H264)
No lip-synk, no lag or stutter on HD 720p material using MX Playerwith H/W decoding on

            Cons
Errr... It shows a boot screen for the UG802 instead of the MK802 III
Seriously I cant think of any faults with it!

            Benchmark
Antutu score 10125 (min 252 max 1272 interactive)
Antutu score 10484 (min 1272 max 1272 performance)

            XBMC
Runs fine on any of these roms, just make sure you install a modified NEON version which can be found over at XDA developers and use MX player as the default player from within XBMC. I wont go into detailas this has been covered many times, I did try the new Frodo beta2 build and as far as I know no version has been modified yet to use MX player as the default player. I did notice that the new Frodo build is very quick in the menus and at pulling up and switching various fan art images as well as having PVR/Live TV menu available

I know this ROM was made for the UG802 but it runs very well on theMK802 III.
The 720p version is my favourite as it offers superb speed, features and overall reliability, I have been using it for two days now without any issues.

Sorry for going on lol but well done finless Bob and 2dark4u on this fantastic rom !

Ok, done. Actually flashed my mk802-III with ug802 finless ROM and works perfectly.

Only one issue: some games or streaming movies or series dont scale properly and need to relaunch it to re-scale again. When that happens the half of my screen is blank.

                  Just start testing today

Isn´t the MK808 fully identical to the MK802 III, as it also has the 8GB of Flash? Wouldn´t the MK808 finless ROM fit better?

When using the ug802 finless ROM, can you access all 8GB of flash, or only 4GB? Does it mean that the ug802 finless ROM will also run on a MK808 hardware?

Lots of questions - I know, I am just starting with these sticks...

                      OK folks.... I got a MK802-3 device!
SPECIAL THANKS to Geekbuying.com for sending me one so I can work for you all.

So I know many say I have not delivereed anything for this device... BUT watch now

                        Great news Bob!
                        Sorry for being impatient.
As for the features: could you make xbox controller for windows (wired) and logitech f710 work? And I (and others too) have usb hub issues when mouse/keyboard receiver is in the hub, after reboot I have to plug out and in again to make it work because the device does not detect it. And others have written too that many games do not work with mouse, it has something to do with being/not being a touch device. And last: more app space. Is it possible to have the whole 8 Gigs in one piece and have a real sd card for installing apps to this real sd card?

Thank you for your work in advance!

Thanks Bob, there'll be another donation winging it's way to the pair of you when it's ready.....

I'm still waiting for my MK802-3 to arrive from China, must have been on the slow boat lol. I got so impatient waiting I picked up a UG802 here in the UK, I'm presently running your 1.7 rom, as an earlier poster in this thread has mentioned I also flashed the 1080 first, I'm now on the 720, runs a little bit slicker and easier to read stuff on the small Samsung 1080 kitchen TV.

As Pigster has mentioned it appears the only difference between the UG and the MK-3 is the size of the NAND.... Your tutorial for flashing the 1.7 rom was first class, but I still can't get my head around how NAND is partitioned and space allocated.... I chose 1gig when I flashedyour rom + about a dozen apps I've installed.
This is what my UG802 is saying.

                          Internal storage:
                          Total space: 0.98GB
Apps (app data & media content) 211MB
                          Available: 753MB

                          NAND flash
                          Total flash 1.67GB
Apps (app data & media content) 1.99 MB
                          Available: 1.66GB

I have no external micro SD card inserted..... I was under the impression the UG802 has 4gig of NAND, any chance you could give a brief explanation of what I'm seeing and how much space I have left in real terms. Also I see John has flashed your 1.7rom onto his MK-3, how will his space appear?... my apologies for the lack of understanding .

                          Kind regards
                          Peter

Hide Status Bar Issue Feedback for Bob

                            Hi Bob,

Just a little bit of info about the hide status bar and how well it works on some of your roms that I have flashed to my MK802 III 4Gb from geekbuying.

                            On the
                            UG802 2dark4u/Finless custom ROM version 1.7

The status bar is very difficult to bring back after hiding, also once it is hidden if I move my mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen and move the cursor along the screen it leaves a flickering image of the mouse trail behind, I did encounter this strange effect before but it was on one of geekbuyings manufactures roms, sorry cant remember which one it was but it did advertise the ability to hide the status bar for the first time.

I had no issues at all with Hiding the status bar on your
UG802 Finless ROM 1.6 "custom" JellyBean - Made from MK802-3

It work really well! No strange flickering mouse trail issue and it always popped back up when requested.

ps, Really looking forward to testing out any roms you make for the MK802 III.

Thanks and keep up the good work

                              Storage space on 4Gb MK802 III after Flashing finless/2Dark4u UG02 1.7 Rom

                              @ Bluepeter

Just had a look at my internal Nand space, like you I have no Micro SD card installed and it does look like 1Gb+ of storage space is missing.

                              My readings are as follows

                              INTERNAL STORAGE

                              Total space 0.98GB
                              Apps 252MB
                              Available 658MB

                              NAND FLASH

                              Total space 1.67GB
                              Apps 79.54MB
                              Misc 11.69MB
                              Available 1.58GB

Doesn't really add up to anything close to 4GB

Thanks John for you response, Sorry I was under the false impression your MK-3 had 8gig of NAND, didn't realise they did a 4gig version. Mine, when it arrives should have 8.

                                Regards
