So, It seems everything is ok at MK802 side.

but when I try to flash, I get the "not a msc device" notification

It seems that at windows side it is not everything ok...

Try reinstall the drivers at win device manager.

You don't have USB Debugging enabled by any chance?
(switch it off if you do)

And the mk802 command lines are:

reboot bootloader [enter]

I did the update with no problem, the terminal commands work, but not the adb reboot bootloader command, the regular reboot bootloader works, but the tool gives the not msc device note

So, maybe you have not installed windows drivers properly...

It's rooted. Must work with terminal commands...

You can also reboot using ADB: adb reboot bootloader
You might need to add the VID into the adb_usb.ini file in your users/.android folder
(just add 0x2207 on a single line)

Once I had this setup the device rebooted, I installed the drivers and the tool correctly detected flash mode.

In my oppinion, the simplest way is first do the update to the most recent stock firmware (20121129), because it's rooted. All you have to do is put the update.img file in a blank SD ou pendrive and restart MK802.

After that, enter the google play and install a terminal emulator.

Plug the mk802 provided usb cable at a pc usb port and unplug everything else from mk802, except a mouse (no hubs, no external power..) .

Open mk802 terminal emulator and type:

su [enter]
reboot bootloader [enter]

You will see a blank screen at TV (for a moment you will think it failed, but it's ok) and now install windows drivers.

Flash tool will recognize it. So, just follow the procedure in finless readme from here.
