So hocuspocus69, one last question for you. One of your first steps is to make a full TWRP backup. But I have a new stock system without TWRP, and I would rather not install that. Furthermore, there is no real data to backup. That said, I have read stories of IMEIs disappearing, etc, so to be safe I decided to make a full backup using SPFT. To do this, I used the scatter file from the current stock firmware as guidance, and manually typed in ~20 readback ranges showing start locations and lengths for the partitions to be backed up. Then I ran it, and it dumped these partition backup files to my computer. In your opinion, would this be enough to recover from some type of disaster, in particular, the potential loss of the IMEI? On a side side note, I did grep through the nvram partition dump file, and I could not find my current IMEI... But I trust it is there if the readbacks did what I was expecting them to do. Anyway, thanks in advance for any further comments you might have!

IF you find in your NVRAM partition dump file a reference to MP0B_001 file you have the IMEI that is stored encrypted inside it
BUT I continue to prefer TWRP method! :-)

Ok, I've reflashed the tablet with the the 8GB userdata scatterfile, did the factory wipe, and everything started up fine. After rooting, I then cleaned up and uninstalled all the Chinese apps with the regular Apps control panel, and then Link2SD for some of the "stickier" stuff. Thanks, hocuspocus69, for the guidance you provided!

Hi,
Thanks for the scatter files. I was able to make the change to 8gb however I was not able load the TWRP recovery with flashtool. When I chose the TWRP recovery and the 8GB scatter file it gave me a checksum error and would not let me proceed. I imagine this is because the TWRP recovery is bigger than the original recovery. I had to root the tablet and flash the recovery using flashify app. Could you explain once more how to flash using flashtools?
Now I just need to get the tablet to read/write NTFS and workout the Bluetooth issues with my Parrot Zik (huge audio lag that keeps increasing) and I am good to go.

Just ordered the Teclast T98 32Gb. Should arrive somewhere next weekVery excited to start using it. It is my first tablet, so I’m quite new at rooting / flashing etc. Did some research, mostly on this site, on the subject. And most things are clear to me.
When I receive the tablet, some of the first things I want to do is increase the user data partition (to 4GB or 6Gb). Situation is quite similar to ‘verbage’.
With the out of the box tablet, I want to do the following steps:
1. Root the Teclast T98 32Gb. One of the following options;
- Go to stock recovery – install MTK_root_update.zip
- Root Genius
2. Backup my IMEI Number (just in case)
3. Make complete system backup (also just in case). One of the following options;
- MTKDroidTool
- TWRP – Nandroid backup
4. Increase user data partition
5. Flash custom RileyRom v1.2
- As described in his additional ‘MTK First Time User's Guide_1.2.pdf’
Step4. --> Reading the instructions for increasing user data partition, I’m not confident that I’m taking the appropriate steps. So I hope you guys can help me with it. So step by step for dummies- Copy desired scatter file (e.g. MT6752_Android_scatter_6GB) into the (unzipped) folder of original stock ROM - Teclast T98 C6R3 1.0.4
- Open SPFT.
- Go to tab ‘Download’
- In pulldown menu select ‘Firmware Upgrade’
- Click Scatter-loading
- Browse to the folder of original stock ROM
- Select ‘MT6752_Android_scatter_6GB.txt’ (when going for 6Gb user data partition)
- All items are by default checked à Hit download button à connect tablet
- Start tablet in stock recovery mode.
- Make a Wipe Factory reset to finish resizing partition
- Restart in normal mode (all data is wiped, how is this possible?)
- Open SPFT à Go to tab ‘Download’ à In pulldown menu select ‘Download Only’
- Scatter-loading: TWRP recovery ONLY
- Hit download button à connect tablet.
- Start tablet in TWRP recovery mode.
- Restore the backup (made in step 3) with TWRP.
- Restart in normal mode.
Thanks in advance all!

this is a step by step guide
remember there are 2 teclast t98 c6r2 and c6r3 and firmware are different in version
1 download TECLAST T98 C6R3 custom ROM 1.04 HP69
https://mega.co.nz/#!ENwHhAKb!4wH3Qz...XgpvmdE7hO1xsQ
2 unrar it
3 poweroff your tablet use spflashtool in download mode uncheck all check only recovery and point location on recovery.TWRP.img
4 flash it (remember if you haven't use spflashtool before you need to install driver and after push download button and then connect your tablet!)
5 restart in recovery mode (only using TWRP you can backup NVRAM partition other tools aren't compatible yet with MT8752)
backup all (absolute NVRAM partition ... you LOOSE your IMEI if something will be wrong) on an external usb flash unit
6- poweroff your tablet
- Open SPFT.
- Go to tab Download
- In pulldown menu select Firmware Upgrade
- Click Scatter-loading
- Browse to the folder of CUSTOM ROM
- Select (when going for 6Gb user data partition)
- All items are by default checked Hit download button and then connect tablet (now you are formatting everything enlarging partition and reload CUSTOM ROM with stock recovery)
- Start tablet in stock recovery mode.
- Make a Wipe Factory reset to finish resizing partition
- Restart in normal mode (all data is wiped, how is this possible? only userdata are erasing)
- poweroff your tablet
- Open SPFT Go to tab Download In pulldown menu select Download Only
- Scatter-loading: the same scatter file MT6752_Android_scatter_6GB.txt
- uncheck all check only recovery and point location on recovery.TWRP.img
- Hit download button then connect tablet.
- poweroff your tablet
- Start tablet in TWRP recovery mode.
- Restore the backup (made in step 3) with TWRP.(only NVRAM partition! if you restore all you have loose your time until now)
- Restart in normal mode.
- and you have a teclast t98 c6r3 updated to 1.04 firmware rooted and debloated
ciao

Thanks very much Hocuspocus69! Makes a lot very clear. I can imagine that this is very basic stuff for you, but as a new user this step by step comes in really handy!
I am aware of the 2 versions c6r2 (16Gb) and c6r3 (32Gb).
I don't want to offend, knowing you made the Custom ROM 1.04 HP69, but if i (hypothetically) want to install RileyRom v1.2. Can i follow the above taken steps, with the exception:
- Open SPFT.
- Go to tab ‘Download’
- In pulldown menu select ‘Download only’
- Copy 'MT6752_Android_scatter_6GB' into RileyRom folder
- Click Scatter-loading
- Browse to the folder of CUSTOM ROM (Riley)
- Select 'MT6752_Android_scatter_6GB'
- All items are by default checked Hit download button and then connect tablet (now you are formatting everything enlarging partition and reload CUSTOM ROM with stock recovery)

yes sure you can but rileyROM is based on c6r2 firmware!
this tutorial is only for a brand new unit...
if it isn't additional steps needed
between 5 and 6 steps you need to copy everything in your intSD partititon (like music photo maps) on another support because on step 6 you erase EVERYTHING from your tablet
your tablet have a partition called intSD not to be confused with extSD!
and in step 6 restore also userdata partition (for contacts sms logindata installed apps) as well as NVRAM partition
ciao
