UPDATE - Google Play update issues yet again! new 3.5.16 version

Just seen an article saying Google are activating 700,000 devices a day, Its a wonder the servers havent melted

OK one thing for sure and I have tested this many times now.

1) If I flash a ROM (even my old 1.2) and login to my current account, I have limited apps. NO MATTER what I do e.g. Factory reset, reflash, erase files, clear data in apps, etc. I cannot get the market fixed PERIOD! Unlike before where that always worked! Now it does not EVER WORK.... well at least in 30 flashes today alone

2) If I use titanium backup with or without logging in to google before the restore, and then restore the following:
Accounts
Google ServicesFramework
Market 3.4.4
Market update

I can get the Market working again.

I have tried restoring those above items one at a time and it still wont work! Seriously! I have to restore with Titanium backup all 4 of those items all at once to make it work. This makes NO SENSE to me.

This makes it very difficult to find out what data or database is controlling this.
I am about to give up!

All of you that have Market woring now. BACK UP PERIOD or you may never get the Market working again!

I will continue to see if I can find the secret but alas I am almost at my wits end.

OK just tried a google account I have never used before. Same EXACT limited apps. I tried ALL MY TRICKS to get it working and no go.

I am going to try a few more things with this account before I give up.

OMG some relief. Maybe it is just Google today?

So using the new unused google account and logging in and getting limited apps, I went in with a root explorer and did the following

I deleted the following and then rebooted:
/data/system/Accounts.db
/data/data/com.android.providers.applications
/data/data/com.android.vending
/data/data/com.android.vending.updater

and all of the following folders
/data/data/com.google.android.xxx

Next boot up I had to setup my account again and all that BUT..... the Market was back!

I don't know guys. I never had this kind of issue before. I can see why some people trying to install the market "on a bad day" and getting limited apps have had MUCH frustration! I am still not sure this is working well. I have to do more testing with this unused google account and see.

Holy BS mother of BS OF ALL BS......

Your not going to believe what was casuing it this the entire day! I feel like I have wasted an entire DAY working on this issue now. What a freakin waste of time!

Now I am not 100% sure about this but. The FREAKIN SD CARD!!!!!!!

There is a folder made on your SD Card called Android. In it are things the Market and other apps use to store info. Now I can recovery the Market 100% of the time even on my old Google account AS LONG AS:
1) I delete that Android folder from the SD Card
2) Not have the SD Card installed when I try to run the Market for the first time!

OMG....

Talk about wasting a CRAP load of time today I could have been using getting my 1.5 ROM ready

Either that or it is a coincidence and the freakin Market started working again

I give up. Such random BS and other stuff is frustrating as hell. I am trying to make things work for everyone and I am totally nit picky about testing and making things right before I release a ROM.

Like my tag line says "God forgive them as they know not what they do".... I feel exactly like that right now.

I am going to unstick this thread and sorry for scaring everyone

Seriously guys and gals (if there are any gals).... I give up on this. Something is seriously jacked up with the Market sometimes. Any of you having a problem and tried everything... GIVE UP AND TRY ANOTHER DAY!

I honestly do not get it. So it was not the SD Card thing which I thought it was. It's not a flash ROM issue, it's not IDs (well not that I have found), it's just seriously so intermittent that I cannot chase it down and I do give up for now

I never give up on anything but this one has me beat!

The ONLY thing I can say... Is IF you have a working Market.... before you flash my latest ROM... Make sure you have a Titanium backup of "all system data".
Restoring that ALWAYS works!

I then did a factory reset. On next boot I logged in again and the Market worked.

What the HELL is going on, I do not know . I wish I did so I could fix this issue but alas, it is inconsistant and I cannot troubleshoot it or nail it down.

Bob thank you for let us know about this, but if you think about it, removing support for all these tablets is not good for the Market business, since we spend money on the market. On contrary, they should want Market support in all tablets!!. Je, je... Developers are making a ton of money from the Market. This is one of the most profitable software markets in the world.

I could not argue with you more my friend! It's like WTH? Why make it difficult? In fact I read a article the other day where Google was going to open up and release the restrictions. Alas... That has not happened yet. I suspect that they want people to see apps that are releated to their OS and device! That in my opinion is a total MESS right now! I mean how do you keep up with 3-4 OS releases in a year and figure that out?

I do this kind of thing for a living and I understand what Google is probably going through. What I think we are seeing is that BS mess. Hopefully they will figure it all out. Apple sure has by having ONE platform on which to control. Google is not so lucky

Anyway, I cant agree with you more! I say Apple is going DOWN long term and Android will lead the market soon. We are in the best postion right now to enjoy LOTS OF STUFF coming for us. Well at least I think anyway

Tablets are going to be a huge growth market I think which is why Will James and I started this place. I am hoping to do something totally different than the rest of the sites out there. Let us know how we are doing please and feel free to give feedback!

Fin i cant thank you guy's enough for the work your doing here, i give you guy's prop's, what you DOC and the rest are putting in to this is truly some ground breaking stuff, Im running your 1011 on my 1211 and for a long while i've been trolling the forums looking for someone to crack this rom, to where a begginer like me could install safely without having to go in and mess around in those files and screwing something up,and run a smooth and crisp custom rom on it. I've had a few "force close" but other than that i've had not one problem with this rom, my only suggestion for your v1.5 is to get rid of some of those usless apps that run in the background and serve no purpose, like the left over apps that are for a phone when my tablet doesnt make calls, like dialer anyways i think you know where im going with this cause ive been paying attention (debloating), again if no-one else says it i will THANK YOU, not only for putting out these roms but also for teaching, and creating an environment to learn.

Bob, I am following your frustrations with great interest. I'm sorry I do not know enough to help you, but rest-assured your sweat and tears will be our gain in the long run!
You are trying to sort out issues so we don't have them and that is totally awesome.
Certainly Google need to make sure they don't alienate any users as they have a huge chance of winning some Apple users like me if things work well and we can get tablets that use their system working really usefully. The confidence of users in the App Market is a huge driver, as that is where they make money.
Just want to say keep at it Kiddo, you may well be battling against a bug at the G-end.
In the meantime, I wil follow your advice and BACKUP my settings as you are subtley hinting us to do.

An interesting side note to your market problem. To get the new supplicant to work, I reflashed the 1011 1.4 this Saturday, cleared the catch on market, downloaded the programs needed to add the supplicant and all was good. I used titinuim to restore and had it restore systems apps, which broke my adhoc.

Reflash, cleared the catch on market, no apps. Clear again, nope. Reboot, clear nope. Go to page one and do tricks, nope. Walk away for the afternoon, come back, clear the catch and it was all there.

At least I know I'm only slightly crazy.

The market is like that very unpredictable, at certain times of the day is just doesn't respond. Maybe some sort of sync problem. When you think about it with 70.000 activations every day that can't help

I wish I could nail it down myself. Yesterday EVERY TIME I restored with Titanium the market worked.

The biggest thing I would like to figure out is why a reflash of the ROM causes a new device registration? There is an ID that is obviously being generated after a ROM flash that is different every time and Titanium backup restores the previous ID. If I could find that, then we may be able to resolve it.

While trying yesterday again it's not just one thing like the "accounts" database in /data/system/Accounts.db It is also what ever gets stored for Market and Google Services Framework. You HAVE to retore all 3 of these to "get a magic match up". Doing just one or two of them still causes the market to not work.

I had a fair amount of market problems when I was working on an app; I developed a list of things to do to get the market back. I believe there's a bug somewhere in the google framework; this a workaround, rather than me actually finding the bug and fixing the problem.

1) Clear data and cache in market, gmail, talk
2) make sure background data and auto-sync was checked in accounts and sync setting (you'd be surprised at how many times background data seemed to uncheck itself)
3) temporarily turn on accessibility/accessibility checkbox and one of the 'back' options (but make sure you uncheck this after you've got market access back, it even warns you that its a security risk)
4) login to the youtube app or signon to the talk app

These always got the market back for me; once I started doing this, I never had to reflash or hard-reset to fix the problem.
