    T428 ALPHA TEST ROM - Frame skipping testing

    OK folks.... So when I got the CX-919 and started playing with it I could not believe how fast this ROM operates. When I fired up Netflix, BAM I could completely see it was much smoother and I could not find a hint of frame skipping. BUT... you guys with the good eye's, you have to tell me.

    THIS IS A ALPHA TEST ROM! What does that mean? Some stuff does not work and I have not spent a lot of time testing everything. You may find more bugs so expect that. The purpose of this TEST ROM is to determine from others if frame skipping and video playback is fixed.

    Notes:
    Wifi works so good on this I cannot believe it. It picks up routers in my neighborhood that none of the T428 ROM have. Data rate over wifi is the best I have seen yet.

    BT works and connects to my BT mouse and the mouse works.

    HDMI setting does not work! In fact it wont show up in settings. But it will read the EDID of your TV and should set accordingly. It does on my TV and sets to 1920x1080 60 hz.

    I did not test any cameras, Skype etc.... just video playback.

    Antutu only scores at 16000 but I do not believe it honestly. When you use and operate this ROM you will see what I mean.

    So you guys willing to test and see that it is possible to get good video playback, give this a try.
    I want to see what others think before I put more work into this ROM. From what I can see, I only need to see if I can fix HDMI settings. However it might not be possible due to the kernel and finding the framework smali code related.

    THERE IS NO README in this ROM kit. I expect people that flash this know what they are doing at this point. If you are not comfortable flashing ROMs, erasing, etc... then you should not be messing with this. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

    Oh and also, after you flash this, PLEASE power down fully (remove power) and boot it back up. A kernel change reset hardware thus things may not work properly. It also may not boot on it's own without a power down!

    Gonna blow my device up right now! will post results soon

    Update: Stock launcher is really bad lol, wifi is very good, tested two 720pmkvs in archos and both had noticeable jitter during scenes when camera is panning down. If I move the mouse around it plays back smooth, which is very weird. It also keeps forcing some zoomed in aspect ratio in archos and mx player. Both files were played locally from usb to avoid any possible network issues.

          Again we are testing video frame skipping nothing else at this time.

              I can not test because the basic prerequisites are not running. (no full HD, no usb hub)
              After backflashing the 1.5 I had a pink boot screen.
              My usb hub also works again.

                Odd your USB hub does not work. Mine worked no problem or I would not even have release this ROM.

                Yes, between flashing you need to power down. A kernel change resets hardware.

                  Setting HDMI resolution

                  Hey folks. For those of you testing this and if your TV is defaulting to 1280x720 there is a easy way to change it.

                  The HDMI settings do not work in this ROM but you can manually change it.

                  Using ES File explorer. Make sure you turn on root and mount both system and / and RW>

                  Now go to this file /sys/devices/virtual/display/display0.HDMI/
                  Open the file called mode
                  Just edit that to 1920x1080P
                  When you save the file it will instantly set your new resolution.

                    Any chance this will work on the 908? Its all i've got in the rockchip quad core department.

                      Yes it works out the gate on the MK908. Just take kernel.img from my MK908 1.5 ROM and use that kernel.

                      Also for folks that do not want to hassle setting the HDMI resolution. Here is a init.d script.
                      Just unzip this and put this script in /system/etc/init.d
                      Now ever reboot it will switch the resolution.

                      Here is the script code:

                      #!/system/bin/sh
                      # Set HDMI resolution
                      sleep 15
                      echo 1920x1080p-60 > /sys/devices/virtual/display/display0.HDMI/mode
                      # done

                      Attached is a ZIP file to download.

                        Actually here is a better script. The first one assumes a sleep timer but as you install apps it might be too late. This one properly wait for boot complete from Android OS

                        Code:

                        #!/system/bin/sh
                        # Set HDMI resolution
                        while [ ""`getprop dev.bootcomplete` != "1" ] ; do sleep 1; done
                        echo 1920x1080p-60 > /sys/devices/virtual/display/display0.HDMI/mode
                        # done

                          Well... flashed it to my mk908 with the #21 kernel from your finless 1.5. Video jitter was still totally there. The only problem here is that I used the kernel from before and I believe bob suspects the jitter is in the kernel so... not a good test really. Wish this kernel ran on the mk908 or rather I wish there were some damn source code available ; ;

                            hub behave weird

                            I notice a weird situation. When connecting my touchscreen cable directly to the USB port, multi-touch works perfect. But using a usb hub is different. If i connect touchscreen and any other usb device to the hub at the same time, OS do not report touch correctly. It looks like touch is not continuous, the touch point vanish periodically. I am sure the touchscreen still send report to OS, it looks like OS miss touch report periodically. This doesn't happen on MK808.
                            BTW this ROM is really smooth, wifi is very fast.

                              This sysfs interface is also present on rk3066 devices or at least it works on my mk808 using 2dark4u's 1.4 kernel.

                              Additionally, it is worth pointing out this only changes the HDMI output resolution to the screen, not android's internal resolution which remains unchanged. You will get upscaling/downscaling from android's framebuffer resolution to the HDMI output mode you choose. Exactly like using HDMI settings.

                              On a side note, is there a way to change android's internal framebuffer size? I would love to try qHD (960x540) on my 1920x1080 screen just for "fun". The nice 2:1 integer scaling ratio "might" make it tolerable and very fast on rk3066 devices.
