I used this on my mk908 with the kernel from bob´s 1.4 rom.. and with that setup you get display options like resolution settings and hdmi scaling. This is the kernel from a 4.1.1 system - the #94.

OK since you have "good eyes" for this video frame skipping thing.... what do you think?

I will agree that it´s the best I´ve seen so far.. though I´m still using a kernel from a skipping rom regardless... I´m pretty happy with the matchup but I still believe I´m not doing an accurate test as I´m not using the kernel supplied with the test rom.

Long story short - skipping is still there with my setup, which is a mixed rom as I stated above. It truly is the best I´ve seen so far but sadly I can still without a doubt see the skipping and it still goes away when I move the mouse. Again, to reiterate, I´m using a standard mk908 kernel rather than the one provided with this rom. I sure wish there were more devices who´s kernel would run on the mk908.. It must be the odd one out.

Just in case, I'm testing the QX1 with the latest "official" 1080p rom and can clearly see the jittery video expecially on panning scenes.
Reason I'm posting here is because I also see that this goes away if I move the mouse so it seems to be a common problem.
I also tried on 720p setting and although there is still jitter fixed by moving the mouse, it's not nearly as noticeable.
I tested this using the Youttube video in the link below so you guys can replicate.

Thanks for the post. I was wondering if the QX1 had the same issues or not and you have answered my question.

                frame skipping T428 or MK908

It seems like we're confusing devices again. Perhaps this frame-skipping problem only exists on the MK908? I was not having any discernible sign of this on my T428. Now I'm wondering if ANYbody actually ever had this problem on a T428 and if it's ONLY the MK908 which has this problem.

I can confirm the T428 has this. It is hard to see but it is there. That's why this ROM I made and posted because to me, I do not see it at all in this ROM. At least with Netflix I do not.

                    Bob:

I've followed your fine work even before my MK908 arrived day before yesterday. I immediately tried everything available from this site, GeekBuy.com and my own bag of tricks to alleviate that unacceptable frame skip tic that vitiates nearly every video.

I was about to give up and throw the unit into a drawer when I saw this alpha test. I quickly transferred over your 720p kernel from 1.5 and installed the hybrid. The results are absolutely the best one can get with this device right now, and very, very good in their own right.

Yes, the rom itself has some flakiness to it - it's an alpha, and a kludge at that - but its video (and wi-fi) performance take the MK908 to a new level. After a lot of tinkering, including with 4 versions of XBMC, none of which works satisfactorily, my set up now is:

                    1. Your Alpha for the T428 cross-bred with your 720p kernel for 1.5. Used Pimp My Rom to enable native Android hardware acceleration.
                    2. MX PLayer from the Play Store, set to use 4 cores and with H/W + decoding.
                    3. ES File Explorer to fetch movie files from my NAS.
                    4. Amo Navi-X installed, with MX PLayer as its default renderer. Bliss, fast and video choices galore, almost enough to keep me from missing a functional XBMC.
                    5. The EMedia Player that came with the device as an alternatrive to ES File: its quick UPNP interface combined with the strong wi-fi and video performance of the alpha rom, make it a smooth player for many videos.

Bob, whatever you do next, please build on your huge breakthrough with this alpha test. Maybe 4.1.1 on the T428 was natively the best solution for these quirky Rockchips; maybe there's some magic in your kernel that was released through this marriage - BUT it works. Did I mention I have a critical eye, and have tested many videos. While none is perfect, I am now streaming 1080p movies through Navi-X fluidly on MX Player. The jitters are vastly reduced, and in some cases not there at all.

The sole gotcha is that audio volume with this rom seems down, I have to crank up my TV set a bit - but it is good, clear and unbroken audio so no real worries.

Thank you, Maestro, please do move determinedly in this direction. You're the only expert I know who is on the right track.

Thanks! This is why I made this ROM. After getting "trained" to see the video frame skipping, I thought this was by far the best working! And no offense to Strauzo with his ROM work, but still this is what I am running right now myself because it is in fact the best video playback I have seen yet.

Just my opinion but thanks for the testing and letting me know!

Yep, you're right out in front with this experiment. I never use alpha roms as a rule, but this one is sooo good where it matters - video and wi-fi - that it's my daily driver now - until your next stroke of genius.

You've show us the way, Bob, I look to you to stay in the lead.

I have now tested this ROM and 1.5A on my T428 back to back using MX Player Pro as the video player. My findings:

                          1. The stutter is present in both ROMs
                          2. When the video resolution is set/left to 1280x720 in this ROM, the stutter is all but gone. Also moving the mouse around has no effect on playback smoothness
                          3. With the resolution set to 1920x1080 both ROMs stutter identically but moving the mouse cursor enables smooth playback

Like I wrote in another thread, I'm using the vertically scrolling end credits of Chuggington cartoons to test the stuttering. You can see this behaviour even with the episodes found in YouTube.

Molle, could you please send me a direct link to your Youtube test video? I think these cartoons are better known in Europe than over here, and I want to test the exact same one on my hybrid 908 rom. Is the video 1080p?

so the stutter is at least partly dependent on the hdmi stretch-to-1080p feature - intresting, I never noticed that.
