I'm blank on this, not heard of it on this tablet before. From the sound of it, it doesn't appear to be rom related. I could be wrong.

I suggest you start a new thread in the Pipo tablet section - might get more attention.

        Hi all,

I've just rooted and flashed my brand new Pipo Max M9, and out of curiosity I've got a couple of questions:

        1. I wanted to know how the parameter file works.

I understand that this file leaves me between 2GB and 8GB of user space, that's fine. What I fail to understand is why I have that choice, I mean... if I choose 8GB of user space over 2GB, what I will lose to have that space again?

        2. I've read that this rom comes debloated, but after rooting and flashing I see the exact same appearance (not only the icon sets, but the desktop widgets) I saw in the original rom. Did I do something wrong? A data cache from CWM left me in the exact same situation.

        Thanks in advance!

The parameter files decides how much space is dedicated to system, app and app data. This space is a chunk of your internal 16gb storage. A larger space for this, means an equally smaller space for user data. Stock roms usually operate with 2GB. This can become too little after a while, or if installing large games/apps. This way, you have more storage for system and apps and their data - without the hassle of juggling with "Move2SD" apps, that don't always work like they're supposed to.

If you need to change the size of this part, you have to flash ROM again. Because of this, I suggest you allow yourself some extra space right away - atleast 4gb parameter. User space can always be expanded with an external sdcard - the system/data/app space, cannot. Atleast, that is - without reflashing.

After flashing, before boot - always clear cache partition and dalvik cache under "Advanced" in CWM, unless explictly instructed not to.

            In answer to question 1:

Your tablet comes with 16 or 32 gig of NAND flash memory as advertised on the box. The system takes up about 700mb of this space and whatever application space you select also comes out of this total NAND flash memory.

Some people use their tablets to run lots of games which require more user app space, so I get requests to enlarge the user app space to accommodate their wishes. The more user app space you have...the less internal SD memory you have to store music/videos or other data...so that is the priority you have to set. For some tablets, I have even done 12 gig user app space parameter files.

The reason I do so many incremental steps in size is just to give more choices...that's all. I prefer 2gig, myself...but I would rather be cooking ROM's than playing games....hahaha.... The more crap I install, takes that much longer to restore when I flash a new ROM.

            In answer to question 2:

The debloating I do is to remove a bunch of unnecessary apks from the apps folder...many are Chinese apps that are not usable unless you read Chinese. Some are Pipo addins that require a code to activate. They are designed to improve the user experience, but at a cost of taking up lots of room and nag you with notifications. I also remove any widgets that don't make any sense to include...like the weather in China. Since Widgets don't take up much space, If they don't pose a problem...if they seem useful...I go ahead and leave them in. For a while I was editing the Launcher2.apk to remove all those widgets...but when 4.2.2 came out, my old Launcher2.apk I was using wouldn't work anymore and I haven't had time to make a new one.

I have to be very careful because some apk's have dependencies on other apks to run...some functions of the tablet require certain apk's to run. I have gotten into trouble removing too many apks...and things like wifi, bluetooth, Google Play Store.......quit working correctly. So my debloat process is a compromise of saving space/removing clutter...and preserving usability of the device's functions.

              Confused about Parameter

              Hi All,

First post here, so hope i get this right!

I'm slightly confused about the parameter instructions in the read me.

I looked in the ROM folder, and saw the files specified, however some are text files and the original file was just that, a file.

Am i correct in assuming, i rename the unwanted one to a .txt file, and remove the .txt extension to the one i want (4gb in my case)

I think i've done it right, my tab won't arrive until tomorrow, but i'm doing all my reading up and bookmarking now.

I don't know how noobyish you want to make the read-me but some people might not have "show known file extension" turned on. (just a suggestion)

Many thanks for helping us Tab owners out.
You guys are what make the internet the thing it is.

This is correct, no extension for the actual parameter file to be used. The rest go as .txt - that part is mainly to keep them apart and organized.

My M9 has crashed, and is now stuck on the boot animation (flashing lights)

Basically i installed RileyRom 1.6 yesterday, all went fine, and had a quick play about with the tab.

This morning i started to install some apps, nothing amazing eg Kindle, Titanium etc.

The last app i downloaded was the BT app. (In the UK it allows me to use loads of paid hotspots for free)
It's provided by my home broadband supplier, and is a "legit" app. It's installed on all five android devices in our house.

The screen became unresponsive, and then i pressed the power key (quick press) to close the screen and then turn it back on. But the screen never came back, the tab appeared to have died!

So i put a pin in the reset hole, and nothing. then i did the same again whilst holding the power button down. Then the tab booted up to the RileyRom image, and then onto the animation, where it's been sitting now for ten minutes!

                  What next?

                  Cheers

                  EDIT:
I then tried rest and holding down escape, and got into CWM, from there chose reboot system and it came back to working fine again.
Is there a log file that i can upload to you at all?

PS: I'm not a techie in any sense of the word, but i could follow simple instructions if you would like some info from my tab.
                  Thanks

Most useful log files would either be had to set to "start logging" manually, or would most likely be gone with the crash and the consecutive reboot / reset.

Hopefully this was just a glitch, and won't happen again. But as you've not had too much time settling in with apps and such - I would really suggest you install (flash) the RileyROM 1.7 for your tablet (as I seem to remember, you have the 3G version). The 1.7 was developed using a completely new development kit from the manufacturer (referred to as the SDK2.0) - and thus the RileyROM 1.7 has removed many small bugs, improved many existing features and their performance, and enabled a few new features.

As you've already managed to flash the RileyROM 1.6, it seems you've got everything working in that region, AND have the drivers installed correctly - so flashing a new ROM should not be any large challenge at this point. You'll find the RileyROM 1.7 for the Pipo M9 (3G version) here: http://www.freak-tab.de/rrileypm/Pip...leyROM_1.7.zip

And a very informative "First time user guide", explaining many things about the process and different things - here: http://www.freak-tab.de/rrileypm/Fir...e_pr0_rev5.pdf

If not included, and you think you could do with updating the drivers for it - you can get the latest drivers (as of post date) here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ivers_v3.5.zip

If you didn't do it before installing (flashing) RileyROM 1.6 - I suggest you read that First Time User Guide .pdf document while you wait for the RileyROM 1.7 to download.

hey hey, I've installed 1.7 on my pipo m9 3g and all is working good except... now when I connect my pipo to my pc via usb the screen comes up on the tablet to connect as a mass storage, so press that but all it does is just continually load. Nothing comes up on my pc as showing that the pipo is connected either. Is this more a driver issue?? Also just noticed internal memory is 'unmounted' and as such I can't transfer anything onto there. Installs apps fine though... edit: scratch that. I noticed that the tablet was showing that the SD card may be damaged and need to be reformatted. Seeing as I have no SD inserted I figured it must be to do with the nand storage and so allowed it to be formatted and WALLAH! the tablet is connected to the pc as a mass storage device. Thanks heaps for the rom!

hey, sorry to bump the thread again, but having problems viewing online video in my country (Australia). Could this be due to some regional thing with the rom as I had the same problem with the stock pipo firmware as well?

There is an explanation of that in the readme. It is due to running CWM instead of the stock recovery.

You also need to check to see that USB debugging is turned off.

I am having trouble on my Windows 7 64 bit not being able to put the tablet in flash mode from the flash tool...something wrong with the driver setup, I think. You can use the reboot app or do it manually (I'm not sure about the exact procedure on the M6).

thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if your reply is for my last question re: is android region set? Otherwise everything is working perfectly. Fast and smooth. It's just that some local tv content wont play on any browser hence the query about regions in android or is it more of a hardware thing (being a Chinese import)? thanks heaps
