Limacsg, I got a 2nd hand HomeSync for around 220$. Unfortunately, whatever I did, including making new pre-rooted system.img, disabling security in boot.img etc does not work, Odin FAILS in flashing all this.

I've also tried a chinese site claiming root, which also does not flash. So now I'm stuck with this nice box, USB3.0, GigEth (must have's for me), but without root, I feel very restricted.

Many apps in the play store is stated as not-compliant. Nevertheless, I downloaded them to my phone and then uploaded to the box, which then install perfectly except a few items like Chrome (which installs but crashes when launched).

So if anybody is able to achieve root on this, then we'll have a winner for some time! It plays 1080p perfectly, has good interface and "HomeSync" function if you like it, it can easily become a media center and home server...

If you compare X7 with WD live when you play movies especially 1080p movies, and the WD live gets a score of 100 the x7 cant even get to 40 point to that. Many says its flawless but when you go to details it dont play all the diffrent fps converted videos if you have a 24 fps movie you need to set the damn device to 24Hz video output to get a good result and still the video isnt as crisp as it is on a WD live there has been around for years
All RK3188 should be able to play HD video pretty well now, as long as you use the right kernel.

For the X7, try this rom with one of the vsync fixed kernels:

Or the pre-6 release of Minix (has the same fix inside):

I made a tool to apply the fix to almost any binary RK3188 kernel:

It's a shame than almost none of the vendors ship their roms with this problem fixed though (with the exception of Minix). It just shows how uninterested these vendors are in offering support after sales.

I use 60hz HDMI on my X7 and all my video material in any framerate plays smoothly. For heavy 1080p material you might want to use a slightly overclocked version. The overclockomatic tool can produce overclocked kernels with the minimum frequency raised from 312mhz to 1200mhz, this seems to fix many of the tiny jerks around sudden scene changes. Also, overclocking the ram seems to give the RK3188 a huge boost on 1080p, esp with 3D. Actually the ram is heavily underclocked by default. Most devices have DDR1333 (=667mhz) but are running on 360-400mhz only. So setting ram to say 600mhz should be a safe choice for most devices. Overclocking the GPU is generally not advisable as it's pretty close to it's limit.

So it is possible to enjoy your RK3188 device, but not thanks to rockchip or the vendors. Three hoorays for the people on this community!
