Yes it's thrue with the first firmware a lost of bugs, but with new version improvement like 20%. The problem that I did found out is the memory ram and app still open and the original mele launcher maybe corrupted with first version. But I tell you I did overclck the CPU to 1.2 ghz and using apps for the memory ram and XMBC work ok no problem. Goog device for videos, still young and reasonable price

I have an A1000g with the external Antenna. Its a nightmare. Frequent crashes, can't find the build.prop to change the DPI, XBMC playback is horrible and the CPU is clocked at 1ghz. I've tried over clocking the CPU but the box gets more and more unstable the higher the frequency and worst of all there's no custom Roms for it.I 'm selling it on **** and going back to Rock chip.

Was interested until I saw the $300 price tag, I'll build a PC for my TV before I break 200 bucks on a wimpy TV box

Ouch, many people online expressed the same sentiment after doing a bit of research and there are shills EVERYWHErE trying to pretend to be excited customers, doesn't sound very trustworthy to me.

            a1000g

I have a a1000g with internal antenna and am pleased with it. After 2 weeks no crashes and while its a little slower than rk3188 the video is a lot better. I also like the 3 usb hosts, full size sd slot and sata dock. I just ordered the mele adapter that converts the dock to usb 3.0.

If you spend a lot of time with your Samsung Galaxy device, you might want to consider the Samsung HomeSync - a device that acts as your personal cloud, allowing you to share content from your Galaxy device anywhere and anytime, and also doubles up as a media center.

$380 price tag, so you can't really compare it to RK3188 devices.

$299 in U.S. for 1 Terabyte and Cortex A15 at 1.7 and Samsung build quality. I'm not ruling it out yet Would like to know if it plays xbmc. The new Geniatech atv1800 is $200.

Price looks reasonable for an octacore. It even has USB3, handy if you'd want to turn it into a server with gbit network and an external HD

I wonder how much community there is around those odroid boards.
Are you serious? How much community is around odroid ????

                      ODROID HAS CYANOGENMOD official support.
                      NUFF SAID.
                      BOOTLOADERS ARE OPEN.
ROOTED OUT OF THE BOX even without CM.
                      SOURCES AVAILABLE.

I mean, My next box will be ODROID.

Read that Samsung homesync has a lot of inbuilt restrictions and restricted access to what you can install from the play store. Of course, u can root it to remove all the restrictions.

Hi friends, there are other devices with MUCH better playback?

Ie i have a t-r42 (rk3188), Mx2, ouya and raspberry pi and out of all of them the rk3188 has the worst playback!?

MX2 was/is excellent for the price, ouya is very fast but has rubbish remote, rasb pi has slow menu but plays 1080p perfectly, the rk3188 has very fast fluid menu and speed but has poor 1080p playback.

I hopes this helps others but my question is why do people not like things like mx2 etc and choose to opt for rk3188 devices on this forum?

so I would say from experience so far:
                          1) Ouya (fastest so far, plays 1080p perfectly)
                          2) Mx2/Atv1200 dual core amlogix - Both play 1080p perfectly
                          3) raspberry pi (simply because slow menu everything else perfect)
                          4) Rk3188 - T-R42 (excellent fast menu and nice remote - Worst 1080p playback)

Good luck with whatever you buy but its time to move on from rockchips

                            RK3188 != RK3188

There are a lot of different devices out there using this chipset and you can't really judge them just by the chipset.

I seriously doubt it. Take a look at Lewy's Custom Rom for the K-R42. 1080p works perfectly and there haven't been any complaints about it for weeks. The Minix X7 has also perfect 1080p playback by now.
