from what I have read so far I really don't understand all the hate on rockchip
you are talking about a dual/quad core chip-on-a-stick with 1or 2GB of DDR3 and a decent GPU for under 80.00 bucks and regardless of what ever agreements or Licences code may be under if you can't enforce them (and in this case this is pretty much impossible China FTW) there as good as useless
I think a couple of people need to be reminded that without Rockchip and allwinner the Mini-pc on a stick movement would't even exist and we would not have 50% Of the Software for Android We have without the Chinese "stealing code" and outputting cheap "copies" last I checked part of the core of the GPL was making stuff accessible to everyone
now this doesn't excuse rockchip from not releasing the code but people need to stop and think before they fly off on a War-campaign against it
and this whole bit about certain people not releasing what they have found
to them I say you are NO BETTER then rockchip
    current devices(rockchip sucks)

Whoa there Legitsu. There is no "hate Rockchip" or "War campaign" going on here. We are just exploring some of the many options out there. There are lots of chipmakers that don't start with RK and more to come!

sorry a bit miffed after reading a few posts claiming users are with-holding code because there mad about some Chinese company having not released there Sources
since clearly not sharing "your code" makes you any better then "insert name of chipset vendor X here"
been scouring the web lately looking for one of these little cheap wonder-stix to replace my MEDIA pc that died and people getting into moral-high-ground wars doesn't help anybody

Yah man I hear you. Personally I think its more about build quality and software.software. software. One of the big players will get it right and it will be all over for most of rest.

Nice specs but hefty price. At that price I would be looking at the Samsung Homesync.

The marketing guys prey on the gullible public. As do the lotteries...
Getting a android device that does what it says on there site :-)

The mele a1000g looks nice... (a31 with the new external antenna)
The x7 lost its appeal as it uses the ap3660 wifi chipset

I can't see a lot of people against or in war with rockchip. There are a lot of people who see the great potential of this devices, if rockchip open his source and give developers the tools, they can make our devices better, only that, if a big community of developers work in this devices we will get better devices with most applications, uses and free of bugs.
If we hate, are in war or against rockchip, then we will not have this forum.
This devices are insane cheap, great performance, low electric power. My mk808b replaces my old htpc, and I love it, but it can be improved a lot, and most of the people here want to improve it.
And about complain gpl, there is a lot of people working in a lot on devices for free and gives his improvements, the only paid the they expect is if someone improve his code, they can access to the improvements, is not fair to steal their code and use it like a proprietary code without redistribute it.

What is wrong with ap3660 wifi? And which wifi chipset is to prefer?

I'm not convinced about the mele a1000g anymore than I am by other devices. Doesn't take much digging around to find its fair share of bad reviews.

That's it! I finished by ordering Measy U4K. There are not much reviews around, neither support, but i'll take this gamble. The specs are really what I was looking for (mainly for vids) and hopefully will replace my oldy-boldy Mk808. Will report back. By the way, found it for 88$ on Ali.

really should not matter what the brand of stick is the hardware is identical

Good to see some viable alternatives to the RK3188!

I suspect that the android stick market is still very small compared to the tablet market. In a way we should be happy that at least some companies bother to produce such sticks at a reasonable price. You can say a lot of things about rockchip but they do deliver a lot of bang for the buck.

There's a fix for the video problem now, so at least the future of the RK3188 is starting to look a little bit brighter
