if you want to use XBMC do not get anything with a allwinner chip
Allwinner chips will NEVER be supported by XBMC or pretty much anyone due to the cedarv issues

Price looks reasonable for an octacore. It even has USB3, handy if you'd want to turn it into a server with gbit network and an external HD

I wonder how much community there is around those odroid boards.

Have never been a great fan of xbmc. So, I don't really care. MX does perfectly the job for me. And most important of all, no artefacts and color gradients, but smooth video experience...

you won't ever have hardware acceleration for High10P files with any of the current ARM based chips
nether mali, broadcom nor powerVR physically support it

If you mean Hi10P, then A31 overclocked at 1.3-1.5 is quite capable to run it in software mode. It is just a question of overheating which I'm going to resolve by installing a heatsink with active cooling.

software decoding ins't really feasible for 1080P files that are more then 10Mbit/s
tho I did have a idea about offloading some of the work to the GPU
do the acually decoding on the cpu and then do the presentation on the gpu (think MadVR)

Why then should I run something bigger than my kernel allows me to (720p)? I mean I'll be alright anyway to play a 1080p downscaled to720p by the kernel.

                    you should't native is king
downsampling from 1900x1080 or 1900x800 to 1280x720 just hurts the quality more then it would to upscale the 720P source to 1080 the trade off is that down sampling is faster then upsampling

Sorry, if I got it right you are saying that downscaling is demanding more resources than upscaling? Is that what you say?

other way around up-scaling is slower then down-scaling

                            Legitsu,

When you say it will never be supported by xbmc
a/ how do you know what will and will not happen in the future
b/ it runs xbmc perfectly well, and as far as i know, there are VERY few devices that are actually officially "SUPPORTED" by xbmc, so isnt that a moot point anyway?

What is the "CederAV issue"? (google returns a blank on that!)

curious, because this A1000G looks like the best thing out there at the moment, particularly the speed of the graphics chip.

"No tech support. New firmware is very unstable and buggy. Seller is not responding for my messages."

                              "
During the first hour of use revealed an inherent bugs. Device hangs and reboots spontaneously. Error messages arising that the application is not responding after each mouse click. LAN port does not work. The new firmware does not solve the problem. The seller refused to bear the shipping fee of return which is expensive. The claim has been resolved, and AliExpress has made a full refund to me with no returning goods."

It's a box version of the Measy U4K and will have all the same issues with XBMC etc. as mentioned above. Also if it sounds too good to be true it usually is and I just don't believe that it will do what it says it does. However, if you get one please post a review as I'm still on the lookout for a decent android box!
