I took Y8 for Hi10P (x264 10 bit).
Works well in HW on MXplayer 1.7.40 (stock firmware 06.05):
Level 3.0-5.0 - ok.
There will be support in new versions 1.9.10:

We have already discussed with our developer team. In future MX builds, this chipset [Yundoo Y8] will be whitelisted for Hi10 playback.

L5.1 - only in SW [hardware bug with OS6 (?)].

Funny Android 7 by analogy with H96 Max I do not need, I think this is a piece of shit.

thinking that this box was never gonna be updated or maybe next year i bought that new $30 box from zte if you take into account the shipping time from china maybe the update and new box will arrive at the same time ,will be interesting to see how a $30 box compares with my $120 box the magnificent yundoo y8

Just for using the same CPU does not mean that you can use a ROM for other equipment with it. You must search for a ROM to that particular box.

ceto, I recently got the same box from Elebao on Alibaba. After taking it apart I found that it was actually Ddr3 ( H5TC8G63CMA ). You should check. & also after flashing every Rk3399 firmware known to man I think I'm finding vorke z3 firmware to be the the best. So far today it's kept 4k resolution & ehernet has stayed connected. Had a few freezes in settings but after force stopping launcher & adding Nova & apps its looking good.
