I just opened my box again and I think it is the same as your second one. I have that same BB-ROC170811PS sticker and the eMMC is also the SEC 701 , KLMAG1JENB, B041, S558Z034. My box is running smoothly with the the ROM at the first page, installed from the OTA app (forgot to check the wipe checkbox).

I think you were lucky, or maybe I was unlucky ??
Do you also have D/G marked memory chips ?

I found that when the box is set to 4K 60Hz, the screen becomes unstable and will blank out and flash. I changed to 4K 24Hz, and then the screen will become stable. I tried two different high speed 18Gbps HDMI cables, and the issue remains, so I think it is the box. My HDMI cable was used on my UHD bluray and it plays UHD 60Hz without issues (yes, it is 60Hz Billy Lynn Long Halftime Walk UHD disc). Firmware is Firmware Stock OTA MECOOL M8S PRO PLUS ANDROID 7.1.1 AMLOGIC S905X 2GB/16GB TV BOX 20170927. Anyone else experiences the same issue? Thanks.

Is it true the defect is repairable with a little soldering? Or was it about another M8S something?

I sent mail to Anny back in September when we started narrowing it down to the specific Samsung eMMC production batches, so I'm pretty sure they're aware of the issue.

Maybe someone can draft a "class issue" letter about the batch with flashing issue, noting the SEC Nos. and OEM FW Numbers. Also to point out that it happens with the OEM FW that is advised by GB as a first step ....

Because like quite a few people on here flashing the newer OTA UPDATE ATV ROM over the previous ATV ROM had me stuck at the NEXUS Splash screen.
I went back to OEM v0619 Firmware and then flashed the newest OTA UPDATE ATV ROM again.

Not sure why you have a concern about the size of HDD. I tried my 1TB Toshiba external and is recognized by the box without any issues.

All you do is reboot Android.

After the very first LibreELEC install/bootup, where you have to use the Reset button.
Any subsequent reboots or power ups will boot straight into LibreELEC with no user intervention necessary.

This following is a really good LibreELEC Mod. to do to speed up LibreELEC Kodi quite noticeably for day to day use.

LibreELEC does not support the wifi chip, right? How do you get around with internet connection? My router is upstairs, and it is quite hard to run a CAT5 cable down... Do you use a wifi bridge or powerline?
