I use a USB 3.0 cable and a USB 3.0 port to flash my boxes and run USB Burning Tool 2.0.8.

I flashed my box the same way I did my M8S Mini II: load firmware, press start, plug one end of USB cable into PC, press and hold the reset button and plug the USB cable into the box. I normally release the reset button once all of the windows notification beeps stop.

I've flashed the firmware 3 times using the above method with no issues; once to 0919, then back to 0815 because I wasn't happy with 0919, then finally to magendanz rom.
I haven't flashed yet. Just made a factory reset. It seems to be better than before now. Bought this box because of the roms but now looks like risky

Actually, I have three boxes and none are from the affected batches, so I'm guessing like the rest of you.

what is the chip the eMMC app mentions? can you tell us? in my case it's KLMAG1JENB what means the bad SEC713
Under chip type it says AJNB4R...is that what you're looking for?

edit: after googling this code, it seems to be a Samsung chip. Aren't the Samsung chips suspected to be the faulty batch? Or is it only certain Samsung chips?

My box runs fairly well running magendanz Nexus rom. No lockups yet. My only issue is the WiFi seems to drop for a second the odd time, but I suspect that's a HW issue.

But yeah, I was able to flash to magendanz rom, as well as GB's 0919 firmware using USB Burning Tool without any issues.

    I just check everything.

It was my fault GRRRR. I used a wrong image "LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2-8.1.10-C2.img" insted of "LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2-8.1.10.img.gz".

now it works fine. Thx for your support

The app didn't give me any relevant info from what I can see. But thanks for the tip.

Like I said, I went ahead and updated my box and thankfully it went smooth. However the firmware itself was... meh. It felt smoother but they removed the status/navigation bar option in the display settings. The volume controls are linked. And play store was the Android TV version and the regular version downloaded from apkmirror didn't work.

I decided to flash to magendanz nexus rom and it runs just as smooth, if not smoother, and magendanz's rom has the status/nav bar option still there. So far I'm fairly happy with my box now.

Big thanks to megendanz for his work.

BTW, I was noticing in the u-boot usage doc that the write command automatically skips bad blocks. That would explain what we're seeing with those partial firmware writes on the affected boxes. If the same "bad blocks" are always skipped, they might retain their original contents from the factory firmware. Then only reflashing the original firmware would restore their integrity.

    Code:
    gxm_q20x u-boot Usage:
    store store init flag
store read name addr off|partition size
read 'size' bytes starting at offset 'off'
to/from memory address 'addr', skipping bad blocks.
store write name addr off|partition size
write 'size' bytes starting at offset 'off'
to/from memory address 'addr', skipping bad blocks.
    store rom_write add off size.
write uboot to the boot device
    store erase boot/data:
erase the area which is uboot or data
    store erase partition <partition_name>:
erase the area which partition in u-boot
    store erase dtb
    store erase key
    store disprotect key
    store rom_protect on/off
    store scrub off|partition size
scrub the area from offset and size
    store dtb iread/read/write addr <size>
            read/write dtb, size is optional
    store key read/write addr <size>
            read/write key, size is optional
    store mbr addr
            update mbr/partition table by dtb

    Hi,
Does anyone know the distribution of pins in the AV socket?
    Where is GND located?

The box hasn't froze up on me but it seems quite buggy. I have a logitech mouse connected to it, and the mouse cursor is restricted to the top left quarter of the screen. After a while, the overlayed settings menu on the right becomes quite sluggish. Youtube (playstore version) came preinstalled, but it is not listed in the app drawer, only the settings app list, so I can't add a shortcut.

Am I safe to update to firmware 0919, which as I understand it is the latest firmware for this box?
When updating it with USB Burning Tool is it similar to the Mini M8S II and that you load the firmware, press start, press and hold the reset button and plug the box in via USB? If so, does it matter which USB port?

    Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I took the risk and just went ahead and updated the box (I know I should have probably taken it apart to check the emmc etc.) but I lucked out and it flashed no problem.
The box seems snappier so far but I just installed it.

The only issue I have with this firmware is they seemed to have removed the option to show the status bar. Is there anyway to get that back with this firmware?
edit2: Also annoying is the sound sliders are linked to each other. I can't set the media volume to max and other volumes low like I usually do.
