Unfortunately, flashing requires this strange Standard_A_USB_male to Standard_A_USB_male cable (like the one below). You can buy it or you can cut two regular cables in half and solder together two pieces of cables (connect wires of the same color) to have two A male connectors.
Use USB-4 socket on the A5X to flash, others will not work.
BTW, if anybody found (or created) an UI app with a navigation bar, and/or notifications for the A5X, please post it here :-)
Also, if anyone is facing weird issues with the box such as certain apps not able to pull out menu (some movie apps i shall not name), or widget doesn't load (i use weather/clock app widget but need to manually trigger it to load the widget after every restart otherwise it will just show the widget frame with empty contents most of the time) or lag when playing certain streaming contents...
this is a really frustrating box to own, even my frustrating tronsmart Draco from 2 years back seems to be more stable than this box.
any help would be appreciated to make the experience slightly better.
thanks.

To stabilize apps, and to make widgets startup correctly (or any scripting apps to start), just make them system apps instead of user apps. You can use Titanium Backup to do it, or just move apps manually. It works, it solved this problem for me.
Also, I installed Xposed and Gravitybox, and use a Pie control from Gravitybox instead of a navbar. You can also use the Pie control to display top notifications and status messages on request.
Unfortunately, I was not able to solve the problem with some apps missing key menu items or top buttons. The most frustrating are missing OK (or checkmark) buttons which disallows confirming certain types of actions, like group functions in Titanium Backup, or confirming selected settings in some apps. If anyone found a solution to this problem, please post it.Last edited by JerzyD; 12 April 2018, 21:57.

Rockchip only provides the software support for Widevine L1 in the firmware, not the Widevine L1 license and the CTS verification tests.
The manufacturer also has to use AndroidTV Oreo instead of Android Oreo before Google will even communicate with them and then they also need to get a HDCP license from Intel.
After all of this Netflix will still stream in SD, they also need to get a license from Netflix.

Yes i know that, so thats why i'm asking.
I know that a5x + got already oreo update. Also it doesn't need to be Oreo, Nougat also, even KitKat is supported. Most important is that it can decode VP9 correctly and implement trusted execution environment, but most arm cpus provide TrustZone so it's not an issue anymore.
Also Widevine licensing is free-of-charge process so it's all up to tvbox vendor.

Since late 2016 Google doesn't certify non AndroidTV firmwares on Android tv boxes anymore.
The A5x Max uses normal tablet Android Oreo not the AndroidTV Oreo one.
An HDMI license also costs several thousand dollars, renewable each year and is required together with the HDCP license that also costs money for each device, so it's not free.
Only the Widevime license is free but it takes a couple of months time to fix and pass all the CTS tests, so companies need to hire extra engineers to help with it, that also costs money.

That's mostly true, but google is licensing to regular android also - mind most of the smartphones etc. It's mostly technical job
I'm not talking about hdcp etc, because i'm not aware about theirs licensing process.
Just asking about a5x because latest mecool's have L1 and i need to decide which one to buy.
