A2. I think that without Root app won't reboot the OS. Limitation of Android.
A3. Seems AMLcodec was removed, so You have to work without it.

I tried to flash this rom today but my computer won't detect my H96 dongle. I tried connecting all three USB ports to my computer (not at the same time) but nothing shows up and Windows doesn't give the device connected sound. I could be doing something wrong but I don't know what. I had USB debugging enabled in the OS, I tried while in the recovery, tried "adb devices" in the command line, but nothing. Every time I plug any phone into my computer it always detects it. Any ideas, or is this possibly a defect of my H96?

Alternatively, is there any way to get this rom into a TWRP flashable zip instead of the img file? I can load TWRP just fine

Nope, I pushed the reset button while it was plugged in, I held the button while plugging it in, unplugged, replugged, booted into recovery, turned it off via software, turned it on via reset button. I got absolutely nothing on my computer. I assume I'm supposed to connect it to my computer via the OTG port, though I also tried with the standard usb ports just in case.

Do You maybe have Windows 10 on Your PC? It seems to be problematic OS.

The OS shouldn't matter. I was able to use Windows 10 to install this ROM (image) onto my dongle. Check this out here. Those are clear instructions I used to get my ROM to install using the USB Burning Tool method.

I used Windows 7. I also tried both the USB A and the Micro USB.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try again later. I think maybe I'll try my laptop instead this time. I find it strange that some instructions say to click Start on the USB burning program and then plug the device in, while others say to plug the device in first and it will show up under Device ID.

I wish there was a way that this rom could be made into a TWRP flashable zip.

You're welcome. Problem is how would you be able to flash TWRP? There's no "download mode" on this device that I know of and SuperSu from my understanding isn't compatible with this device, so Magisk is only root option which would require the USB Burning Tool option in the first place. Good luck installing, that tutorial should help you take care of it from here.

I flashed TWRP with no problem on my device. In the stock recovery I went to... crap, I can't remember now. It was "download update ext" or something like that, then navigated to the folder with my TWRP file on my micro SD and flashed it. When it was done it instantly loaded into TWRP. The only thing is that TWRP didn't stick when I flashed it in that manner. But it's so easy to flash back that it's not a problem at all.

Also, mine came rooted out of the box.

Edit: I had pasted the link to the page where I found TWRP and the instructions but it quoted the whole page for some reason. Search for TWRP311_AML_ViT.zip and you'll find it.

Exactly my point. Refer back to where I mentioned that the only option I know of to successfully root this device is through Magisk. And my device also came rooted OOTB. Magisk root method is superior in every way

I don't understand your point, I must be missing something. You asked how could you flash TWRP, I explained how. This enables us to use a TWRP flashable zip to install a rom instead of having to use the USB burn tool.

Magisk has proven to retain root after reboot - it also avoids tripping Nox counter, unlike SuperSU (although that primarily pertains to Samsung phones), hence why I said Magisk is a more superior option for rooting. TWRP is not really an option on Android TV devices anyway, so that's negligible. USB Burning Tool method to flash the rom is the only method I know of w/ a guaranteed rate of success (if the correct ROM is used). You have to run Magisk after you install the ROM in order to root your device. Hope that cleared up some things in regards to my tangled mess of details in my past few comments.

It cleared up the root bit, but I'm not really concerned with root, just concerned with flashing new roms.

What I don't understand is why you say that TWRP is not really an option on Android TV. I used TWRP on my H96 dongle to backup my stock rom, flash a custom rom that didn't work, restore my TWRP backup, then later flash another custom rom that does work, which I'm using now. For me, TWRP is not only an option, but my preferred option. It's far easier than having to hook up the device to a computer and use the burn tool

I looked into how to convert a burning tool img into a TWRP flashable zip, and I managed to make a zip with a software tool that someone wrote. But I'm not sure if I did it right, and I'm afraid of bricking my new device, so I haven't flashed it yet.

More power to you... You can fiddle around with that trying to flash the rom with your "preferred" method all you want, only to potentially brick the device you own, or you can apply the instructions I gave you earlier in order to install the rom with the USB Burning tool which has been proven to work. The choice is up to you. I guided you to water, so it's your turn to gather the fish

Well the custom rom I'm using now, which I flashed with TWRP, is working pretty well, so I may not need to flash another.
