I'd just start with the stock firmware from this page: http://southerntelecom.com/polaroidsupport/firmware/

look for "PMID701C Firmware Downloads" and you'll see Android 2.3 (GingerBread) and Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). If you're really ambitious, you could try both to see if either help, however the pessimistic side of me thinks that won't be the case.

Thank you elektrik! I think I will try it..

sure! Let me know if it works. If it doesn't and you only have that $50 to spend, Big Lots sells the 4.3" (obviously smaller) PMID4311 which has much of the same specs ( I bought one for my daughter for a cheap MP3 player) and of which I'll be making my custom elektricity ROM (at some point, lol)

Home Buttons Not Working! Both the HardButton and the screen icon doesn't work!

        Polaroid PMID701c

        Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread
        -installed Root kit manager
        -installed Google Market/Play
-removed the Phone.sdk process that checked for cell signal, to improve battery life.

Now the Home icon at the top left corner doesn't do anything, nor does the physical button on the side when pressed.

Is there an app I can install to reconfigure this?
Right now I have to click 'Back' as many times as it takes to get back to the Home Screen which is very annoying.

Anyone else have this problem too?

yes, I had that problems a few times actually. sometimes it would uappen after I installed an application, sometimes it would just 'flqsh bad'. The problems went away when I upgraded to ICS (of course i traded them for a NEW set of problems lol). I would try reflashing. until I get a chance to become intimate with gingerbread (read-elektricity ROM, gb) that was the only way I knew how to 'fix it'.

hmm..now i'll be the first to aadmit that I'm not as saavy about the sd card classes as I'd like. ai do know that 32 Gb is the limit for the tablet, but that's as far as I've gotten. sorry I didn't have a better answer.

Mine came with 2.3, I upgraded to 4.0 from Southern Telecom. Now I want to go back to 2.3, but when I run the firmware tool and plug the device in to USB while holding the menu button ... nothing happens. Device doesn't power on, just sits there.

                    Thoughts?

Hold down the power button for about 20 seconds on the tablet with the usb cord disconnected, then try to flash again via the flashing instructions-our tablets have a 'firmware upgrade' mode that doesn't show anything on the screen but puts it in a flasheable state - the PMID701C's are pretty indestructible in that regard...

No dice. Holding the power button down boots it into ice cream, then I power down and do the Menu+USB - still nothing. The other thing I'm noticing is that when the device was new out of the box, it would power on automatically when plugged into USB. On 4.0, it doesn't power on automatically like that. Weird.

ok, dumb question, but you've verified the drivers are correct and they work?

                            Win7 x64, for the record.

I do see a device in devmgmt that "can't start" -- USB Device(VID_1f3a_PID_efe8). But I can browse the USB storage on the device. You're probably right that some part of the driver is not working properly.

I've tried to update the driver, pointing it directly at the UsbDriver folder in the LiveSuit download - it's the same driver, "Code 10, the device cannot start."

Same issue with those. I've even gone to the extent of using a different USB cable, thinking maybe the one I got out of the (other) box was bad.

I'll have to come back to this later. Thanks for your input.
