So is this ROM/Kernel meant for V1 models of the MK908? Is there any easy way to tell what version of the MK908 we have?

Yes it's made for V1 specifically, but I'm hoping that once I get my V3 I can figure something out with that. The only way I know to tell what you have is to open it up and look at the board. It says right on it.

I found out I have the MK908 V3 (2013.05.13) and I tried the v3 kernel from the link you supplied, however I am not sure what's going on.
I don't know if it's kernel, ROM or hardware related but my screen will blank out for 1-2 seconds and this will happen randomly though constantly.
Any ideas? What's my options here because I'm at the end of my rope and I am close to ditching the MK908.

Tomorrow I'm releasing a rom that has been verified as functional on the V3 stick with video skip fix and so on. Just ironing out a couple things first and I have to sleep now. Please bear with me for one day and hopefully everyone will be somewhat happy lol...

This happened to me out of the box on one of my tvs, I switched to a different tv and it worked, it also might be the hdmi cable or power supply.

No problem, I'll give it another go with the revised version for v3 hardware.

Just a little worried about my stick blanking the screen, haven't seen it mentioned anywhere
else. It could be the actual TV that's causing the issue. Thanks though - I think you are right!

So here's the setup I had and it worked fine: MK908 USB -> Laptop with HDMI plugged into computer monitor
When I moved it to my TV it started blanking out, this was how it was running: MK908 USB -> Power point with HDMI plugged into TV.

Just checking that you are not refering to the famous boot-loop problem of MK908 v3 hardware but really a different one. I've got a stick with v3 HW and so far the only custom FW I've managed to run is jjhmod universal v2.0.

I am really wondering how those guys with v3 HW reported success with some other FWs - including different jjhmods with alternative kernels - I have had no luck with any other combination except the out-of-the-box jjhmod universal v2.0. That is why I am eagerly waiting for the chefs to actually receive their v3 HW sticks and look closely into this problem of V3 HW...

I notice my shipment of 4 MK908s has finally arrived at my local post office!. I guess I should just sit on them for awhile until the bugs are worked out here! Shipping from China takes a long time.

i have the same problem, I have just received an MK908, when using apps and browsring menu the screen flickers and goes blank for about half a second to a second then comes back on,
I have tried various ROMS and the only ROM that doesnt do it is the Finless ROM, I have tried my stick in 2 TV's and get the same behavior, I am not sure if mines is a V3 or not but as its new I think it will be giving I have the same problems as you, I also get the same problem using the stock 0802 update from geekbuying's blog post,

Soemthings not right somewhere, I've only owned the stick for 4 days now and the performance has been poor.

I could build you a kernel with that module turned on in the kernel, but it will break build-in wifi and possibly bluetooth as I cannot seem to find a way to add it as well as keep the ap6210 enabled. I could also try to build that module for you from my sources so you could see if that would work. If you get a chance, try the new kernel.. I did enable a couple usb wifi config options in there.

i tried the new kernel without any luck... but i found the driver for 3.0.36+ and i dont know it just dont work :/ i tried everything .
i really dont care about the bluetooth and thw internal wifi if you can make a kernel for the 8192cu.ko
                            that will be amazing!!!
