One question, Bob your instructions in your Rom state that the erase needs to count to 2048 but mines goes up over 4000, is this right? or do the the instruction need updating, if not then is there something 'different'with my hardware?

Yes instructions need updating. 4096 is the number for the X7 due to it's higher 16GB NAND.

        1.4a is working good...

Today I downloaded the latest alpha build of XBMC for Android and gave it a try. It plays internal, not thru an external player, i.e. not MX Player, and I was pleasantly surprised. My highest quality video is reserved for my Star Wars films, stored on my UPnP server (run by XBMC for Windows), they are all built in 1080p by Handbrake with a bitrate between 2000 kbps and 4000 kbps. By the way, Handbrake is excellent for this sort of stuff.

Anyway, bottom line, the video played quite smoothly over my wifi lan setup. I am happy, and plan to stay with 1.4a until official firmware based on SDK2 is released, if ever. I am disappointed with 1.5a because it is based on the 004 official firmware, which I believe lacks the vsync fix (that is in firmware 003, the basis of 1.4a).

I still get a rare crash, when I install new apk, and forget to disable notifications. With the notifications disabled, my x7 runs for days without any problem. I even dropped it, accidentally of course, and it is still rock stable -- I am totally impressed with the x7 build quality.

Agreed about disabling notifications, also auto updates for apps, as I had a couple of freezes when multiple updates came in while doing other stuff. Since they are turned off and I stopped using sd card, my box hasn't froze once in the last couple of weeks

Any news on multichannel audio? I should have made the leap to android media center ages ago, but still holding off. My NAD reciever doesn't support HDMI, so multichannel digital output is an abolute must. The reciever decodes anything but AAC, so even S/PDIF passthrough is enough for me...
