3 shutdowns today with newest minix firmware 004. I've had 0 with 003..

          Its driving me crazy!!

Is there anyway to get rid of the Google banner at the top of the home screen? I tried googling that and the suggestion I found was to disable Google Search in the Settings>All Apps. I did that but no joy.

I tried installing a different launcher, and it gave me a headache. I like the stock launcher just fine, but the stupid Google gray banner is ruining my cool.

          Any ideas?

I am pretty new to Android, only my 2nd device, my first was a 2.2 tablet from long ago, and I barely remember it. Been using the "i" tablet for a couple of years. This Minix X7 is beginning to grow on me, told my wife how much fun it was. But there has got to be a way to get a simple clean home screen.

You should be able to long-press (using your mouse) on the search bar, and after a second or so, should be able to drag it to the Remove or Trash... I haven't tried it on the minix, but that's how I do it on my phone..

I thought of that too. But it didn't work. When I longpress on it, it just acts like I selected it normally, I can't move it. I have tried disabling more Google services, but still it remains. Maybe it has something to do with the clock widget, I will try removing that and see what happens.

I apologize for hijacking this thread. This short message will finish this topic. I tried lots of things to get rid of the Google banner, but couldn't. Then I saw someone suggest Nova Launcher, and it works. The Google thing is still there, but much smaller and hardly noticeable. So Nova Launcher it is.

Bob you you please look into the issue of default audio resetting after boot. Mine defaults to my airmouse (Mele F10 Pro)after every boot. Very annoying having to change it every time

                    Great ROM, a few issues...

Have to say I've tried Finless 1080p ROM & Official Minix 004 1080p ROM - The Finless ROM is a million times better. Thank you Bob!!

I have 4 issues with it though:

                    1) Big issue - The onscreen taskbar power button doesn't work in your ROM, when you press it the screen flashes then nothing happens. No shutdown menu appears so you have to get up & physically press the power button on the X7 - Not cool :-( (found the fix, you just have to hold the button down to select it now, dont know if this is intentional?)

                    2) Little issue - I really don't like the boot screen & would much rather have the standard Minix one, anyway I can do this?

                    3) More a Minix issue - Still get random shutdowns & restarts although they don't seem to be as many as on official FW (may have spoke to soon it seems they shutdown equally as much)

                    4) Big Issue - Power off button in power menu doesnt work, you press it & it shuts down but then after about 10-20 seconds it powers back up again

I'm using the 1080p version and it seems to freeze a lot whenever data is loading and I try to multi-task or load up an app. It's a hard crash so, I need to pull the plug every time.. Ain't perfect, but I find it more viewable compared to the stock ROM.

have yet to try the 720p one though.. Should I? Any specific performance difference between the two?

Exactly the same as me regarding how & where it crashes - its the same on both Stock 1080p & Finless 1080p ROMS.

I've gone back to stock 720p at the moment & there seems to be a lot less freezes & its quicker although it still has frequent random shutdowns like all the ROMS do.

Only one I havnt tried yet is Finless 720p ROM..

Technically, the X7 should be snappier at 720p.. It's just that these freezes are killing the experience. Haven't had any shutdowns on the 1080p Finless ROM though.. I'm still contemplating whether I should flash down to 720p Finless ROM instead.. But if the freezing extends to the 720p version as well, I don't think flashing is necessary.

Disappointed really, my X5 runs better in every aspect compared to the X7 but then it's running on the more mature 4.1.1 firmware. Hopefully a decent 4.2.2 firmware gets released soon or a 4.1.1 for the X7. As you say its the random shutdowns that are spoiling it really.

I recently bought the X5mini before the X7, and its on 4.1.1.. Everything plays but what ticks me off is the video stutters. I'm using the exact same setup with the X7 and it absolutely flies. Really hope Bob would make a Finless ROM for the mini as well lol.
