    Hi everyone,

Apologies in advance if this is just a noob question.

This is my first time owning an android tablet, PiPo M8 Pro 3G. I have been reading on reviews and videos on how it stable and above average quality than most China tablets in the market.

I am not familiar with rooting and anything Android related, I just have some simple questions to help me.

The device comes with a stock 4.1 Jelly bean version.
    Here are my concerns.

Do I need to update the version to 4.2.2 before I can use the RileyROM 3G 2.0a?
If yes, can someone point me to the right direction.
If no, is it safe to assume that flashing to the custom RileyROM will update it automatically?

In regards to the rockchip firmware.
Do I also need to update this to the latest version before proceeding?
If yes, can someone point me to the right direction.
If no, then I would safely assume that this custom RileyROM 3G 2.0a would update both the Rockchip firmware and the android version?

I would like to add that the First Time User Guide is really helpful.

    and

Great Work Riley, Thanks for creating this program.

      Hi kam,

It's not an small update like a Windows update, it will replace everything on your tablet, so before flashing you should...

      1) Remove any micro SD or SIM cards
      2) Backup personal files such as music, photos etc. to your PC or someplace convenient
      3) Back up the apps & system apps you want to keep (with Titanium Backup for example)

Last thing, the 2.0a ROM by Riley is great, but there's the new 2.1 ROM here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...o-RileyROM-2-1

Thanks for the Help. Is it safe to assume that the android version and rockchip firmware version will be updated once I have successfully rooted my device?

Thanks for showing me the updated link for the new 2.1 ROM for PiPo M8 Pro ^_^

No probs. If you flash any Riley ROM onto your device, it will already be rooted

            Thanks PolarBear.

Since I was new to this I was thinking it was going to be the same as jailbreaking, that you need to update to the proper Version before you can begin.

I learned something new with Android from what you provided that you do not need to update the Android software or rockchip firmware before you can start rooting.

If my I am mistaken with this conclusion please feel free to correct me.

            Sorry for being a noob,

Each time you flash a ROM or firmware to an Android device, you are replacing the firmware with the one you are flashing. There's nothing left from the old firmware when you are done.

You just need to back up everything before you start, or you will have to completely start over installing everything. If you aren't rooted...that may be what you'll have to do anyway...but just that one time.

I use Titanium Backup, which will provides a seamless restore after a flash (given that you use the paid version).

I pulled the old M8 Pro out of mothballs to give to a friend. Thought it should be easy to reload the ROM.

All seemed to go well till it rebooted at the end. Now I have an Android on its back, chest open with the triangle and ! point.

It is just stuck there. I used the reset, ESC and power combo, and it looked to be rebooting again, but came right back to the Dead Droid!

                Any ideas?

                Thanks!

                Edit - 7/6/15
Well .. I got it going again, but I have a caution for those who might run into this!
READ the INSTRUCTIONS that come with the Riley Rom fully!

I did not read far enough, and went looking for solutions on Youtube, finding a way to short the NAND chip to get it back. Well, it is back ...but with a damaged internal nand.

I think if I had read further into Rily's instructions, I would have a working M8 Pro tablet, without the disabled nand !

                One day I will learn!
