    I don't have sound!! I tried all the sound settings (spdif with a cable connected of course) but the box is completely quiet. I grabbed a dmesg after the box has booted, but I can't attach it from within tapatalk so I will edit this post as soon as I get my hands on a proper computer again

      So far i got a couple reboots while doing something that required superuser rights. like installing the lucky patcher or using the root explorer.

      But its not a big issue.

        There are 3 ways to output the sound:
        1.HDMI;
        2.Spdif;
        3.AV;

        if you select in Setting->Sound->Sound Devices Manager->Default Output,The HDMI sound,Spdif sound,AV sound(you can use a headset) can all output sound.

        So what's the result?

          I have tried all three settings many times, but no audio. I am connected to my Harmon Kardon A/V receiver.

              I do not have an AV sound option (or do I need to actually be on AV video output for that to appear?)
              All other options do not work.

              Here is the dmesg I promised:

              Also, I found that this happens whenever I click somewhere (with touch sounds enabled)

              These are all from yesterday, which means before the OTA update. but since it did not change anything (at least nothing that's obvious to me as a user), I guess it's still useful.
              But I can get those logs again if you want

                  Dear three guys:
                  I reviewed the log(dmesg),didnt find any abnormal...So the first thing I want to confirm is whether the sound can come out from HDMI TV directly without connecting any amplifier receiver..

                  And whether sound can come out from av hole using an earphone?

                    Connected box directly into 1080P TV and got sound. Obviously, my problem is my Harmon Kardon A/V receiver.

                      Yes, it's the receiver. I connected it directly to the TV and I get the pop/click sounds on the Nav Bar (which is all I can really try at the moment )

                      I have a Sony STR DH-520

                        This is using an HDMI cable.
                        how did you connect a 2nd hdmi cable from the receiver to the r89?

                        spdif is the small optical cable
                        hdmi can passthrou ac3 too i think

                        but i think you need to connect the box to your tv via hdmi and your av receiver to your tv via hdmi and tell the tv to passthrou to the av receiver.

                        or pass video throu the av receiver to your tv via hdmi since we only have support for 1 hdmi on the r89

                        have you guys tried all channels on the av receiver?

                          I tested and put hdmi directly between the box and TV and I got sound instantly.
                          There must be some passthrough problem when connecting to receiver. I have the Minix X8-h (sound working) and tried that hdmi also, no luck.

                            There is definately intermittent sound issues going on somewhere, this is via hdmi cable, tried multiple cables, 2 tv's and a monitor and issue exists throughout. Basically sometimes it boots without sound at all, other times sound will work ok and then it disappears once not used for a whike, reboot fixes it but not every time, sometimes it will take multiple reboots for sound to resume working, and then of course it can/will stop working again, will try gets some logs together in the morning

                              Case

                              Nice design - looks really good. I like the layout with frequently used 2 USB and micro CD card slots on the side. Nice ergonomics!

                              Good that the holes were added - small enough so that some small piece of metal cannot fall in but enough total surface area to prevent any build up of temperature

                              The only concern that I have is the really low profile of rubber pads on the bottom. If someone is going to place this unit on something that is not perfectly flat, like on a magazine, those bottom holes are going to be blocked. I would recommend those pads to be at least 3mm thick. Natural convection is very sensitive to airflow restrictions.
