    Pipo M8HD RileyROM 1.6 KitKat

This ROM is based on an official update posted by Pipo dated 2/12/14. This is beta release that was shared by a beta tester. The link to the stock version is in the v2.5 thread.

Hopefully, the screen flicker problem is fixed with this version.

I don't own an M8HD, so if you are unsure of being one of the first testers....please wait until you get some positive feedback before flashing.

If you are flashing a KitKat for the very first time...YOU MUST LEAVE THE LOADER CHECKED in the flash tool. The loader has been updated as well, so if you are upgrading from 2.5...keep the loader checked.

IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE FLASHING A KITKAT ROM ON YOUR M8HD...READ THIS THREAD!!!!!!!

Just beware that I was a little frustrated when I wrote that thread...so the tone is a little jaded...but the information is very important. Plus, if you do end up bricking your tablet, there is a solution in post #2.

    As usual this ROM is:

    Rooted
    Debloated
    Init.d Support
    Busybox Support
    English Default
2, 4, 6, 8, or 12gb user app space by changing parameter files
Multiple ko modules for VPN and other networking support added
Patched libril file to enhance deep sleep
    Boot Animation by Tattman65
    Reboot app by Petrus
    Updated First Time User's Guide
Rockchip driver installer app is now included in the kit

There are two other features I've added that are pretty significant.

The auto install feature will allow you to install apk files (apps) from your external SD card, if you place the files in a folder called "autoinstall". You must take the spaces out of the file names for each of the apk files. It doesn't really matter what file name you choose, just no spaces.

The apps will populate to your app drawer shortly after the first boot is complete. Just wait for all of them to populate before you reboot. Wait a few more seconds after the last app, for the custom recovery to install last.

The next feature I've added in this ROM is TWRP custom recovery. This is similar to CWM, but BETTER...because it works. You will have a GUI interface with touch screen capability. Just be patient with the screens...there is a little glitch in the screen refresh that Freaktab Developer Abdul_Pt is working on. If you touch a button and nothing happens, just touch the back button at the top and you will get to the screen you want. Just play around with and be patient until we get everything ironed out.

    TWRP Update

If you have trouble with the TWRP within the ROM, you can manually flash this TWRP update from Abdul_Pt. (Just flash it by itself after first boot by un-checking everything except recovery in the flash tool. Browse the flash tool recovery line to wherever you downloaded this file. DON'T ERASE IDB when flashing just recovery, or you will erase the whole ROM)

Let me say a few things about donations for a minute....

All of the funds I receive from you guys as donations go directly into supporting my hobby...making custom ROMs. With your help, I've been able to purchase many Pipo tablets to develop and test with. Thankfully, I have a good friend at Geekbuying.com who gives me a discount and occasionally sends me a sample (like he did with my M7 Pro). I've also added much needed equipment to my kitchen PC to make things go much easier. So your donations are greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

With Spring approaching, the 2014 models may soon be released, so I will need to order the newer tablets to continue with development efforts. Donations kind of slacked off around Christmas, so funds are quite low.

    So..........

If this ROM makes a difference for you, please consider a donation to support future RileyROM's here at Freaktab.com

I just added an optional TWRP update in post #1.

It may still have the screen refresh problem, but it should mount your SD cards better.

As I mentioned, you need to flash this separately AFTER you've booted the ROM the first time. After some testing, I may release a ROM update with this new recovery included in autoinstall.

      Hey Randy,
could you please share the STOCK libril file of M8HD with kitkat for 3G?

It is possible that for this tablet the stock libril file has deep sleep enabled. I would like to test this file on my M6pro... It could improve 3G strenght without disabling deep sleep.

      Thanks in advance.

First of all, again, thank You very much for your hard work!

I will wait a bit before attempting the flash, being inexperienced and "short tempered" as I am...

Just a question/request (same as I did a while ago): using the rooted 4.2.2 stock rom, I found wifi reception somewhat weak, compared to every other device I use on the same network and from same position... is there a way to boost a little the signal??

Many many thanks again, let's hope this time is the right one: if I will be able to flash it, then it would really be "newbie-proof"...

Screen flickering still present and appears directly during the boot animation, though of a different type.
I've uploaded a sample video so you can see how it looks.

            cheers

edit: Something weird happens though. When I erased IDB to flash 1.6 Total and current memory did not match, I have a less 6 in current compared to total. Then I flashed, saw the screen flickering, So I flashed back to 1.3. I erased IDB, same problem with the numbers and right after I clicked on flash ROM tablet disapears and software switched to no found RK android usb. The 3 steps buttons are no longer working to access the loader mode.

Testing the rom since 3 hours now. No issues so far. Very smooth and fast. Way better than RRom 1.3!

                      Thank you Riley

                      Good job!

What about the screen flickering issue mezzo mentioned above? I still haven't flashed any KitKat roms yet because of it.

No screen flickering so far! The rom just works smooth and without any bugs.
Best rom i tested since i have my M8HD.

I now use it already for about 8 hrs. and installed about 10 apps. it's still very smooth. The wifi-signal and the battery drain are very good!
I think this time it is save to flash

                            *sry for my english*
