At any rate, a factory reset solved the issue.
    Hello!

I used LiquidLimez' script for the 701x series tablets on my 702c with no problems whatsoever.

      Location, location, location

After mucking about this evening failing to upgrade official ST ROM, prying the case apart to look inside etc., concluded I should learn to at least like 702c, since Big Lots probably won't find a stash of 701c models hidden in the corner of a disto center. Biggest pet peeve is inability of Google Maps to find location via wifi. If that issue could be resolved at least the 702c would of some use as a tool, even if the gaming ability leaves much to be desired. Has anybody had any luck with Google Maps and current location?

Thanks. I saw that method after I reloaded everything. I should probably go with that instead. I'll have more time to mess with that tomorrow. All considered, I'm enjoying this tablet a lot more than I thought I would. It's a handy little thing to have for web browsing and reading books. Anything more it can do is just gravy for me.

I went to the southern telecom support site and followed their directions on formatting and reinstalling ICS which fixed the home buttons. Then I followed the guide on how to install Google Play on the PMID701C which worked perfectly for me.

            PMID701C ROMs on 702C

I actually like Gingerbread more than I do ICS so I was wondering if I could downgrade my 702C to Gingerbread using the .imgs from the 701C.

I tried myself, actually you can flash the 703c, 7xc etc but for some reason the 701 will not work. It just hangs while trying to flash.

Where you able to find out who the manufacturer of the tablet is? Maybe this version of ICS wasn't thoroughly tested. I am getting disapointed with this tablet so I'm hoping it just needs the firmware updated.

What really irks me is that its designed in the USA so it should be a good product.

They should have said on the packaging... caution limited support of gaming and android apps.

I finally got Google Maps working correctly and identifying my location. In fairness the problem might not be with ST/Polaroid. First I reflashed ROM. Then instead of installing market using Liquid's wonderful script, I installed maps from an APKTOP link. Worked like a charm. Unfortunately that's only half the battle. Installed Google Play by alternative method and I'm stuck in device compatibility Hell. Can't download Google Voice Search, which I really need. I anybody can point me to apk elsewhere I may be over the worst hurdles.

I am going to try to get Voice Search working too, but I think it's going to involve editing the build.prop file to identify it as a compatible device, and I need to do some more reading on this.

I should probably confess my wifi problems seem to have been my router. Even though it has been working like a champ with all my other wireless devices, it just seemed to have a compatibility problem with this one. But for the heck of it I temporarily hooked up my old router as an AP and it worked like a champ, and was also able to connect ok . So now I've reflashed/upgraded to the latest Tomato and my original router is now working like a champ too. Battery life has greatly increased since the wifi in the 702C seems to be not working nearly as hard now to connect or maintain the connection.
Haven't had any factory resets or storage corruption since flashing the newer firmware from the Southern Telecom site either, but it's only been a couple of more days.

I actually like this little guy a lot for what it is. A couple more things I've discovered:

Google Voice Search won't install, Play store says it's not compatible with this device

Slacker Radio keeps saying buffering-reconnecting when it gets to playing the song, the little commercial when you start plays fine strangely enough.

I don't really like the keyboard, but I'm looking at some alternative keyboards. I like the numbers and some symbols to be available on the main alphabet keyboard by long pressing.

Have you tried sideloading Voice Search? That way you bypass the Play store issues.

I use the tablet version of swiftkey x on my 701c, it's a pretty good keyboard.

I have pretty much everything working now EXCEPT Google Play. Sideloaded Mpas, Voice, Mail. All is well, but for the fact that I can't update anything using Google Play. Ironically most of the problems with the 702c steam from flaws in the ST ROM, and the various methods used installing Google Play.

                            Android keyboard spell-check

Has anyone else noticed... Spell check doesn't work at all for me! Actually it *acts* like it's working because it highlights just about every word I type.. It seems like the problem is there's no dictionary.

I'm using the stock Android keyboard.

                              Go to settings/Language & Input/ un-check Spelling correction.

It gets rid of the red lines. Hopefully someone knows how to set the spell checker up with a dictionary.

Ok I don't mind the red lines so much as I want it to actually suggest and correct as I type!

The red lines seem to indicate that it has no dictionary though...
